This #TaiwanPelosi thing is simply too easy to hyperventilate about, at least the way it’s presented in mainstream news. The reality is that the China threat has been a long and ever present reality for Taiwan, something that pervades daily consciousness and sense of country.

As is Taiwanese identity. And, in my case, Taiwanese Chinese diasporic identity. And that identity is something I cling to for dear life. It feels unstable because I’m only half. And it feels shaky because Taiwan itself is isolated at best and threatened at worst.
