So to mark World Digital Preservation Day, here is some stuff from my games collection. Some I can't actually play. Many games can be emulated but how many will be lost to time? We need to preserve as much as possible and it's a big challenge! #wdpd2019#videogamepreservation
Have to leave slightly early but I found #ScholComm19 to be very useful and informative. I wrote 16 pages of notes and now my hand hurts! Thank you to the organisers and speakers!
Academics wary of putting their articles on the IR but then happily infringe copyright on ResearchGate. Need to embed basic copyright literacy in training to ensure they can make informed decisions based on the copyright status of their work. Thanks @Julie__Baldwin#ScholComm19
Research Support job sharing practicalities: Have a day of the week where the whole team is in. Map everyone's skill sets, and divide tasks among the team. Team building important to make this work as effectively as possible. #ScholComm19
Good to see Uni of Hull's experience of implementing a CRIS mirrors our own. We're yet to have the CRIS feed info to staff profiles on the website though, that is our next step! Thanks @HullUniLib_RST #ScholComm19
The state of RDM in institutions currently: We are just scratching the surface of what's possible due to not being at the top of the priority list and having a relatively small and isolated capacity. Some work ahead to further prove value of RDM to academics and uni. #scholcomm19
Effective ways to train academics in social media = keep groups small, get them to bring their own device, and allow them time to put things into action and sign up for things then and there. Give handouts and email slides to keep conversation going! Thanks @OsMonkey#scholcomm19
Separate accounts for personal and professional or combined? If promoting your academic work, will your audience connect better with a 'real' person? @OsMonkey#scholcomm19
Teaching academics how to best make use of social media is complicated as the skill levels vary wildly. Some are unwilling to engage in the first place as it takes a lot of time. Often they are already working on the next paper! @OsMonkey#scholcomm19
Many academics say they 'only do books'. How do we take OA of book chapters more seriously and get these academics involved? Can work with schools/departments to report on book chapters so far and see which can be made OA and detailing how. Thanks @suzanne_atkins#scholcomm19
Could make use of Symplectic summary spreadsheets to help identify which outputs have had a DOI or other info automatically picked up by the system. Removes some of the need to check manually. Thanks @NicolaBarnett74#ScholComm19
All of this would add value to open access theses in a repository. Very similar to our own wishlist. Especially keen to reduce review time of content. More guidance for students on what not to include, and how to avoid copyright issues would help. Thanks @PHerterich#ScholComm19
Surprised to learn that Uni of Birmingham has 4 repositories for different output types. And I thought ARU had a lot on our hands with 1 and another on the way. Good work! #ScholComm19
Challenges with OA in the arts. It's time consuming to track down info on obscure journals and inconsistent outputs. More standardisation needed! Thanks @isabel_benton #ScholComm19
Kicked off the second day of Scholarly Communication conference with a discussion on jargon. We need to emphasize the essentials of what we do in non-policy language and avoid those acronyms - not everyone knows what they are! #ScholComm19
Many researchers feel this way and it alienates them from open access. Need to provide personalised help to alleviate anxiety and put names to faces to build contacts and increase engagement. 1:1 and drop in sessions are effective. Thanks @casshmbowman#ScholComm19
