Nearly 300 years ago, the first Black performer to play Juliet was Rachael Baptiste, an Irishwoman also hugely successful as a singer.
She performed in Lancashire in the mid-1700s.
I got to make it with the most beautiful group of human beings - brave and truthful & they brought all of themselves. And I made a great friend in the extraordinary @Lolitachakra who made it real & available & direct. What a privilege. Thank you #Hamnet. You were quite the ride.
I am ridiculously excited to reveal my forthcoming book, 'Shakespeare's Borrowed Feathers', with @ManchesterUP. I'm immensely proud of this huge project and can't wait for folk to read!

“The arts are not the cherry on the cake — they are the cake.”
Opening a debate in the House of Lords yesterday, Melvyn Bragg said the UK should realise the full potential of the arts to transform our economy and society.
Culture Forward is bringing @unibirmingham into purposive coalition with culture in the city. An early highlight was the amazing NOMAD: A Tent for Reflection with @SoulCityArts, which asked Birmingham citizens what they have faith in.

We have to reverse this trend. Culture enhances & extends not just individual lives but our collective life as a society. It foments invention, debate, compassion (in the richest sense of feeling with), & solidarity. It must belong to all; we must uphold that principle.
You gotta love “revered rep company returns in full force.”
An incredible collection of theatre folks are making this happen @stratfest and I’m awfully proud to be a part of it.

It was EXACTLY what I needed to prepare myself to analyse the fNIRS data I’ve collected 🎭
I 100% believe the summer school should continue as I’m confident it will be of great use to those who research with fNIRS 🙌🏾✨
