Riddle me this - How does a man who holds three citizenships, but none of them a United States Citizenship have the ability to claim a data center falls under US National Security? Kevin O'Leary holds three citizenships: Canadian, Irish, and United Arab Emirates. Yet he spouts on national TV that "foreign" influences are fighting the Utah proposed data center...the only "foreign" influence is O'Leary.
Who decided this project should go through "MIDA" under the guise of US National Security?
How much actual military/DOD involvement or contractual commitment is there vs. economic development branding?
What are the full ownership/financing details of the joint venture (O’Leary Digital + partners)?
Why aren't full environmental reviews, water rights, and long-term power plans required...before approval?
Why is Utah giving significant subsidize to this project?
So many questions and so much pandering from elected officials who were anything but transparent. Most Utahns do NOT want a massive data center in a rural beautiful agriculture and grazing valley.
There is a smarter way to build data centers, this is NOT it.

Did you know that @kevinolearytv met with @GovCox on January 5, 2026. Months before the data center was announced. He even took the time to have his picture taken, sitting in the Governors chair.
This picture, however, is slightly modified. I felt the picture was missing something, then I realized it just needed a seagull.

I'm going to make an assumption, I may be right, I may be wrong.
The Utah @GovCox may think people are seriously stupid and that people trust what he says. He declared a State of Emergency for the drought we are facing in Utah. Then he declared that people should not be concerned about the water being given to the MEGA Box Elder Data Center and it will actually put water into the Great Salt Lake. Does he mean contaminated water, like the water out of other already existing data centers?
I'm so sick of proponents of the data centers claiming the new mega centers are going to use all this new and wonderful technology to protect the environment and water. NONE of the proposed systems have been tested at the scale of the proposed data center. Do you wonder why impact studies have not been published? Have they not done them or do they know the public won't like them?
Another comical tidbit in Utah are those saying we need to wait and see, that Governor Cox and @jasoninthehouse Chaffetz should be trusted. Once you turn agricultural land into a data center zone, you don't get that land back. And well, you know, when powerful people and those seeking power, profit from proposals...it just smells fishy.
If the Governor and Chaffetz had the best interest of Utah at heart, they'd stop all progression of the multiple mega data centers being pushed in Utah. They'd ask for real impact studies. They'd ask for alternative solutions, like putting data centers in existing and dying industrial zones. They'd demand the Federal Government retrofit the NSA data center to updated cooling technologies (if they actually work) so that it doesn't suck 135 MILLION Gallons of water a year.
But that's just me pondering why one would want to destroy agricultural land, suck of valuable resources, and change the look of our beautiful valleys into industrial sites...all for the sake of a political declaration of an emergency.

Secrecy Behind the Rush
When the government slaps the label “national security” on something, the doors slam shut. Details vanish behind classification walls. Most lawmakers get briefings with blacked-out pages. Citizens get nothing but demands for blind trust.
We’re ordered to accept extraordinary measures—surveillance, spending, regulation—without seeing the evidence. Independent scrutiny is blocked. Verification is impossible.
Then the leaks come. Or the declassifications years later. The “imminent threat” was exaggerated. The program overreached. Mission creep turned into permanent power. The taxpayers paid the price.
By then it’s too late.
Rights have been narrowed.
Privacy has been gutted.
Government authority has expanded.
And those powers are never given back.
Rushed bills and secret “projects” breed deep, justified cynicism. Question the narrative and you’re called unpatriotic. Demand answers and you’re stonewalled. Time marches on, the damage compounds, insiders and their connected friends cash in, and ordinary people lose ground they never regain.
This isn’t paranoia. It’s pattern recognition.
Questioning the breakneck expansion of massive data centers and AI infrastructure is not anti-technology. It is not anti-progress.
It is refusing to hand blank-check power and mountains of data to the same institutions that have repeatedly used secrecy as a shield for overreach, self-dealing, and the permanent erosion of American liberty.
We can embrace powerful new technology without surrendering our skepticism—or our rights. Real national security protects the people, not the secrets of the powerful.

What are rights of a digital citizen?
Data Centers - A Super Weapon war tool.
We need a Digital Bill of Rights for digital citizens.
What we're seeing is a Data Center Arms Race like the old nuke bomb race, and the end of cash freedom (digital currency).
A digital citizen is easily controlled.
If we don't like you or a country's politics we'll turn off car (kill switch), your power, your water, your food, your phones, your money, your life . . ..
Where everyone will have a digital profile from birth to death tracking your physical and digital movement, your spending, your thinking, and your way of life.
Our money life from birth to death is already tracked since 1913 by tax returns.
We've already seen digital bullying, shadow banning, digital debanking, being fired for digital posts, digital speech, sanctions, etc.
Data Centers - a super Weapon of Mass Destruction (MWD)?
The U.S. target is for 9,000 data centers - 1 per 15,000 is for national and world domination. China has 1 per 1 million families.
With 9,000 data centers, logistically they will be hacked and leaked.
When every Social Security number, Debit-Credit Card number, and password gets leaked, then what?
When you're digitally excommunicated, then what?
What's the process to come back into the digital church?
When gov't can buy data for warrantless searches and wiretaps, then what?
Maybe it's good. Maybe it's bad. It's a new frontier. What are the guardrails? What are the pros and cons? What the the rights of a digital citizen?
Why are Data Centers demanding qualified immunity like gov't has from lawsuits?
Data Center policy needs robust public discussion.
And a Digital Bill of Rights for digital citizens.
Data Centers, Nuke Power, Electricity, Anti-biotics, etc are good and bad. Where's the balance and guardrails for the positives?
Data Center policy is a light ballot vote. Not a dark backroom deal between billionaire tech Lords and politicians.
Being against massive data centers does not make me a Democrat, a Republican, anti-technology, or anti-AI.
It simply means I believe we should slow down and honestly examine the real impacts of these projects on rural land, water, energy, and the environment — developers should use better technologies and smarter strategies. When it comes to our rural land, it should not be profits first.
Short-term construction jobs do not equal long-term economic growth. AI itself is not evil, but it must be guided responsibly.
Transparency is critical. With rapid advances in chip technology from companies like Nvidia, is it truly necessary to build 40,000-acre mega-complexes that destroy agricultural land? Or would smaller, distributed centers — retrofitting empty strip malls, closed schools, abandoned buildings, or existing industrial zones — be smarter?
The real problem is politicians making massive decisions for entire regions without meaningful input from the people who actually live there. They’re lured by promises of big tax revenue while handing out huge tax subsidies at the same time. Or worse making profits off of the very decisions they are making for the people.
Governor Cox was elected to represent Utah, but Jason Chaffetz was not. No one elected an 8-person MIDA board to override local concerns and greenlight this project with minimal transparency or independent impact studies.
I’m getting pushback from some Republicans who say “How dare you question a project supported by Governor Cox and Jason Chaffetz?” That’s nonsense.
I’m a proud Independent. I no longer trust either political party. I’ve seen the belly of the beast. Few elected officials put people first. Too many put profit and powerful friends first.
Am I anti-data center? Absolutely not.
I am against poorly or rushed planned, oversized projects that prioritize corporate interests over people and rural communities. We should pursue smarter options that don’t sacrifice prime agricultural land.
There are still too many unanswered questions: What exactly will these data centers be used for — legitimate cloud and AI infrastructure, or expanded surveillance? What happens if the project fails?
Raising these concerns isn’t partisan. It isn’t Chinese propaganda. It’s common sense.
It’s simply asking the right question: How does this impact people and the land we leave to our children?
We deserve better. #Datacenter #UtahPolitics
Kevin O’Leary’s 40,000-Acre Data Center in Utah Is a Terrible Deal
O’Leary says America needs this massive Stratos Project (Wonder Valley) in Box Elder County to “beat China” in AI. He’s wrong — and Utah families will pay the price.
America already has far more data centers than China.
U.S.: ~5,000 data centers for ~134 million households → roughly 1 data center per 26,800 households.
China: ~400 data centers for ~522 million households → roughly 1 per 1.3 million households.
We’re not behind. We’re overloaded. Yet O’Leary wants to drop a single 9-gigawatt AI campus — more than double Utah’s entire current electricity use — on 40,000 acres of rural Utah.
The risks are unacceptable — even if water weren’t an issue.
Energy overload: 9 GW is double what Utah consumed in 2025. It requires on-site natural gas power plants that will spike the state’s CO₂ emissions by more than 50%. Utah is already fighting dirty air. This makes it worse.
Higher power bills for everyone: Data centers elsewhere have driven electricity prices up 267% in five years. Even with “on-site” generation, grid upgrades, backups, and demand spikes get passed to ratepayers. Utah families and small businesses will foot the bill while billionaires get cheap power.
Permanent environmental damage: Massive emissions, waste heat, and industrial pollution in a place that’s supposed to stay rural and clean.
The taxpayer rip-off is even worse.
Jobs? Don’t believe the hype. They promise ~4,000 temporary construction jobs and ~2,000 permanent ones. Reality: Once built, these facilities are highly automated. Ongoing employment is tiny.
Tax incentives = corporate welfare. Developers get massive breaks through the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA). No local money upfront? Great — until the project underperforms.
What happens when it fails? Data centers are capital-intensive and tied to volatile tech demand. If it goes belly-up or becomes obsolete, who cleans up the contaminated land and the giant concrete eyesore? Taxpayers. Who gets stuck with the bill for decommissioning? Utah families.
This isn’t “economic development.” It’s a high-risk gamble that privatizes the profits and socializes the costs — higher bills, dirtier air, ruined land, and empty promises for rural Utah.
Box Elder County residents are already fighting back with referendums. They’re right. Utah deserves better than becoming China’s AI punching bag at our expense.

Across America, citizens, are questioning the rushed and often unchecked expansion of massive data centers. While the political elite celebrate “innovation” and “economic growth,” citizens are asking practical questions: what is the long-term cost and local impact?
These questions seem to be falling on either deaf or purchased ears.
These facilities consume enormous amounts of electricity, extensive quantities of water to cool the servers powering artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and storage. In drought-prone or rapidly growing regions, that corporate demand for resources could eventually compete directly with the needs of families, farmers, and local businesses.
The concern is not anti-technology. It is about sustainability, accountability and transparency. We want to know how much water will be consumed, can aging power grids handle the strain, what the increased heat impact will be, what tax incentives are given behind closed doors, why the increased energy cost burden seems to be shifted to citizens and who ultimately pays when the system is overwhelmed.
One can not claim to be for the people and conducting smart innovative growth, without truly evaluating and being transparent about the cost to the communities. #DataCenters
Robert Davies, a physics professor at Utah State University, has looked at the scale of the proposed facility and concluded that the project’s impact on the local climate is far more serious than previously thought. Based on his calculations of projected energy use, the data center will turn the valley into something resembling the Sahara from the heat impact!
Utah is already a desert State, but we are NOT the Sahara.
@GovCox you need to evaluate the real impact of the data centers you are pushing. It is WRONG for our State.
