there was a study done on professional FPS gamers, and their dopamine levels when competing

those running the experiment hypothesized they’d see heightened dopamine levels throughout the game, and during downtimes (respawns), dopamine would drop sharply

but they were wrong; it was the exact opposite

as they competed, their focused state disallowed for dopamine production — they needed to worry about a myriad of different things in order to win the game

whenever they were idle waiting for a respawn, their dopamine levels quickly spiked

they felt bliss through something which should’ve been frustrating, and directly hinders their chance of victory

yet, perhaps out of sub-conscious understanding that it’s ‘part of the game’, they opted to use it as a time to relax instead of getting irritated

as soon as they’d respawn, their dopamine levels quickly returned to its’ lowered state

people ask me why I don’t short the market — because I feel the same way

every chop period, or downtrend, is an opportunity to recoup

it’s the art of experiencing pure bliss as the market is barren with opportunities

understanding that doing nothing is a decision in itself
