@epicsealboy@gorgomenteia you ask trevor from florida who “took spanish in hs for 4 years” if he actually knows spanish and he’ll say “hola mamacita” and leaves
@dangerdaysbaby@rvelvetstatic@savedacc8136@Gholdenrikk girl i don’t care about any beans on toast or any british slop tf does that have to do with me, i was replying to you talking about the a whole MAJORITY of 700m of us apparently making shooting jokes
@mu__wuzi@ivrugue@redncval well yes? did you as a baby whip out a dictionary when you heard a new word for the first time? i know what the word “cringe” means and know when to use it because i’ve seen it be used in context multiple times even if it doesn’t have a direct translation to my native language.
@mu__wuzi@ivrugue@redncval exactly, a “standard part”. meaning maybe up to a late B1 level. after that your language acquisition becomes kind of like a baby learning to speak from their parents (native speakers). but if you’ve never reached fluency in another language, you’ll probably never relate
@MilkySalt2@redncval things like that often dont have a direct translation, yet by context you learn what it means and in which context to use it, like a baby learning new words from their parents. you arent looking into a dictionary at 2 years old, youre just picking it up.
