This was found in a elderly home care center:
🚨 The "International Transgender Day of Visibility" poster is a complete mess and could do more harm than good—especially for the elderly! 🚨
This image, meant to raise awareness, is packed with stats and jargon that might confuse or even alienate older adults. It proudly states that 171,700 transgender adults in the U.S. are over 65, but then hits them with a gut punch: 1/3 of older transgender people have poor health, and they’re at a “higher threshold for feeling safe” due to discrimination (Center for American Progress & Equality). On top of that, 90% of LGBT people fear discrimination in senior care or gender equality settings. How is this supposed to make elderly folk feel supported? It’s basically screaming, “You’re visible, but you’re also screwed!”
The design itself is a chaotic overload—bright colors, tiny text, and a QR code from Southern Bank that most seniors might not even know how to use. Instead of offering clear resources or comfort, it’s a lecture on “showing respect” and “understanding struggles.” Elderly people, especially those already isolated or dealing with health issues, don’t need a guilt trip or a stats dump—they need practical help, like access to medical care or community support, not a poster that makes them feel like a statistic in a losing battle.
This kind of “awareness” can backfire by making older adults feel more hopeless or misunderstood, rather than empowered. We need better outreach that meets them where they are, with simplicity and real solutions, not a flashy infographic that leaves them overwhelmed. What do you think—does this poster help or hurt? #TransVisibility #ElderlyCare #AwarenessFail #affirmativecare
Seems like a good time to remind you that a new standalone Battle Beast comic series written by @RobertKirkman and drawn by @RyanOttley is coming this April!!!
