A4: By #collaborating with the classroom Ts. We are in a unique position that we can provide support to ANYONE in the school, all they need to do is ask. If we can make sure all the Ts know what support we can give them we are making some real progress. #is516
A4. Work with each other and learn from one another. Build relationships with students. Help in the classroom. Make yourself synonymous with learning. Every time a student looks at you they will be ready to learn and grow and develop. #is516@iSchoolK12
When given the opportunity and the attention even the quiet ones just won't stop talking. They want to discuss things! They want you to have an interest! Sometimes you're the only adult that does. #is516@iSchoolK12
A3: By building personal connections! Sometimes that is through books, resources, in school programming but sometimes it’s just by being a decent human being. A “how is your day going?” goes an awful long way. #is516
A3. Talk to your students! It’s important to get to know them and be aware of what they like specifically as well as current trends. Then use these trends or reference them in lessons, presentations, outreach. Kids will think its silly but it shows you care. #is516@iSchoolK12
It's really really important to be "open to other's ideas." This goes twofold for those already established professionally. I think it's easy to forget how you started out and how your voice was equally important. Modern problems require modern solutions. #is516@iSchoolK12
A.2. Without collegiality, collaboration is impossible. Building relationships, being flexible and open to other’s ideas, and creating trust is crucial for instructional partnerships. #is516
A2. Collegiality is important because it gives us the opportunity to connect to like minded people and learn from each other. By having different perspectives and ideas constantly circulating, we can innovate and grow faster. #is516@iSchoolK12
I love the idea of a lifelong learner. I always tell students about how being a student would be my ideal profession. If only we can be paid to be students forever! But yes, professional growth is equally important. #is516@iSchoolK12
A.1: Firm believer that the day you think you know everything is the day you need to retire. Being a lifelong learner sets a great example for all students. I'm always on the look out for new PD ideas & read several academic/literacy journals for ideas #is516
A1. By continuing to innovate and try new things in and outside the library and also by communicating with others in the field to learn from them and grow in our profession #is516@iSchoolK12
Critical thinking and problem solving are definitely going to be key skills for careers that haven't been developed yet. Although it's important to solve existing problems, it's also significant to solve potential ones. #is516@iSchoolK12
A4: S’s today are going to be adults in a competitive world, connected in ways we can’t yet imagine. To me “Future Ready” learning means that we are preparing S’s to be critical thinkers & problem solvers in order to successfully compete in the global economy #is516@iSchoolK12
A4. It means that students are getting the education that they need, not just what we think they need; that they will be able to handle themselves beyond standardized testing and the curriculum when they are finally on their own. #is516@iSchoolk12
It's so easy to feel accomplished when something goes right and become complacent. I think that keeping a growth mindset is really necessary for lasting change and improvement. #is516@iSchoolK12
A3: I think it’s important to KEEP looking for ways to improve, instead of stopping once you achieve your 1st goal. For instance, once we have a fulltime librarian in each building, we can work toward more #coteaching opportunities. @ischoolK12#is516
A3. You make it a habit, practice it daily, and set goals that can be accomplished and measured. You also hold yourself (and others) accountable for completing these goals. #is516@iSchoolk12
I like how you said "trusted leaders" because I think most people often overlook librarians as just "other" staff. I think making ourselves more relevant is key to getting our ideas across and really supporting students like we should #is516@iSchoolK12
I agree! I think there is too much work and instruction focused on "the test" that students never learn to appreciate learning. That's why when you tell them it's for their own good, they turn their nose up at you. #is516@iSchoolK12
A.1: I am constantly advocating for Ss to have a chance to enjoy learning. Although I understand the importance of testing students, it should not consume our instruction. We are always assessing our students formally, and I think that should change. @ischoolk12#is516
A1. Digital literacy! Assuming that students as digital natives are experts in the field is entirely false. Many of them have the world at their fingertips but do not know how to access it. It is so much scarier with fake news/clickbait drawing their attention. #is516@iSchoolk12
Student feedback is SO important. We recently started a student voice survey and honestly, the results have made teachers cry. But that also means they need to do some serious adjusting to make students feel like an integral part of their class! #is516@iSchoolK12
A.4: I use a variety of perspectives to reflect on my own practice. Examples include student performance, interest, student feedback, and data from district-wide assessments. With this and my own intuition, I can determine areas for improvement and success. @iSchoolK12#is516
A4. I always look for what worked and what did not and aim to improve my lesson for the next class. I also seek advice from peers who have more experience and who provide a new perspective. #is516@iSchoolk12
