Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes for Healing
O Our Lady of Lourdes, loving Mother of Jesus and Mother of Mercy, I come before you with faith and hope, asking for your powerful intercession.
You who appeared to St. Bernadette at Lourdes, bring my prayers before your Divine Son. Ask Jesus to grant healing to those who are sick in body, mind, or spirit.
Comfort those who suffer, strengthen those who are weak, give courage to those facing difficult trials, and guide doctors, nurses, and caregivers in their work.
If it is God's holy will, obtain for us the grace of healing. Above all, help us to trust in God's loving plan, remain faithful in times of suffering, and never lose hope in His mercy.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Health of the Sick, pray for us.
Amen.
May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month, Christians both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance.â (Paul VI: Encyclical, Mense Maio, On the Month of May, no. 1).
Catholics dedicate May to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Not because Mary is God.
Not because Mary replaces Jesus.
Not because Catholics âinventedâ Marian devotion.
But because the woman who said YES to God gave birth to Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.
That is why the Church calls her Mother of God.
This title is not emotional Catholic poetry. It is ancient Christian doctrine.
Elizabeth said it first:
âAnd why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?â~ Luke 1:43
The Council of Ephesus in 431 defended Mary as Theotokos, God-bearer, because denying her this title threatened the truth about Jesus Christ Himself.
St. Cyrilâs anathema was clear: if anyone does not confess that Emmanuel is truly God, and that the Holy Virgin is therefore Theotokos, âlet him be anathema.â
The Catechism teaches the same:
Mary is truly âMother of Godâ because the one she conceived by the Holy Spirit was truly the eternal Son of the Father made man.
So here is the undeniable truth:
If Jesus is God,
and Mary is His mother according to the flesh,
then the ancient Church rightly calls her Mother of God.
May belongs to Mary because Mary always leads us to Christ.
This was already debated and settled by the councils and the early Church.
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.Â
Amen.
Holy Week is the most solemn and central period in our Catholic liturgical calendar. It commemorates the final week of Our Lord Jesus Christâs earthly life, from His triumphal entry into Jerusalem through His Passion, Death, and leading into His glorious Resurrection. The observance of Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and concludes on Holy Saturday, forming the immediate preparation for Easter.
Palm Sunday recalls Jesusâ entry into Jerusalem, where crowds welcomed Him with palm branches. During the liturgy, the faithful receive blessed palms, which serve as sacramentals for the year ahead, as a remembrance of the Kingship of Jesus Christ and our duty to proclaim it in our daily living.
The days of Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the latter sometimes called Spy Wednesday, focus on the events immediately preceding the Passion. These include the anointing at Bethany and the plotting of Judasâ betrayal. On one of these days, or sometimes on Holy Thursday morning, the bishop celebrates the Chrism Mass, during which the holy oils used in the celebration of the sacraments throughout the year are blessed.
Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, commemorates the Last Supper. It marks the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Priesthood. The principal liturgy is the Mass of the Lordâs Supper, which includes the ritual washing of feet. Following the offering of Holy Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is transferred to a place of repose, and the altars are stripped bare, signifying Christâs abandonment and suffering.
Good Friday is dedicated to the solemn commemoration of Christâs Passion and Crucifixion. No Mass is celebrated on this day. Instead, the liturgy consists of a service of the Word, the veneration of the Cross, and the distribution of Holy Communion from hosts consecrated the previous day. It is observed as a day of strict fasting and abstinence.
Holy Saturday is a day of quiet waiting and reflection, recalling Christâs descent among the dead. The Church remains in a state of mourning, with no celebration of Mass until the Easter Vigil, which takes place after nightfall.
The heart of Holy Week is the Easter Triduum, a single continuous liturgical celebration extending from the evening of Holy Thursday through the evening of Easter Sunday. This encompasses the Paschal Mystery of Christâs Passion, Death, and Resurrection. The Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night stands as the liturgical high point of the year. It includes the blessing of the new fire, the proclamation of the Exsultet, extensive readings from the history of salvation, the celebration of baptisms and the reception of converts, with their sacramental initiation.
Throughout Holy Week the faithful are invited to participate deeply in these sacred mysteries of our Catholic faith through attentive prayer, fasting, and full engagement with the Churchâs liturgies.

âIâm really sorry to call you at this hour.â
It was 3:47 AM when my phone lit up. The rescue coordinatorâs voice sounded exhausted and shaky. Earlier that day, I had picked up Mochiâa cream-colored Pittie with the softest ears Iâd ever felt. Just a normal foster. Two, maybe three weeks. Then sheâd find her forever family.
âSheâs losing it,â the coordinator said. âHer sister is wrecking the intake kennel. Sheâs been screaming nonstop since Mochi left. We tried blankets with her scent, toys, calming vestsâeverything. She even broke a tooth trying to chew through the gate.â
I looked down at Mochi, curled up at the end of my bed. Except she wasnât really asleep. Her eyes were open, fixed on the door. Waiting.
I was at the shelter by 4 AM, still in pajamas.
Matcha was a mess. Her voice was gone from crying, her paws were raw from pacing, and her body was shaking so hard she could barely stand. The moment she caught Mochiâs scent from the car, she collapsed against the crate and went completely stillâlike she could finally breathe again.
âCan you foster them together for a few days?â they asked. âJust until we figure something out.â
That was eight months ago.
Now they sleep curled into one another every night. They eat from the same bowl, even though I bought two. If Mochi goes to the vet, Matcha goes too. If Matcha gets groomed, Mochi waits in the lobby.
I was supposed to be their temporary stop.
Turns out, I was home.
