One of the things that we've noticed students struggle with regularly is finding credible websites for research. In my gr 4 workshop, we talked about how to find out more about the website and author before we choose to use a site.
This week I am running a very important workshop with grade 4 about active listening by @CommonSense Education. In an age of constant device distraction, this lesson is more important than ever. You can learn more about it here; https://t.co/A7DLiFebpV
Our @The_OJCS K-2 classes welcomed author Karen Rostoker-Gruber virtually today in the library. She put on a hilarious and interactive presentation for our students, and they were enthralled. You can find her wonderful books at most book stores including Amazon and indigo.
Today our 4s had a CSE workshop called My Media Choices. Healthy media choices look a bit different for everybody, and we discussed what factors contribute to making a healthy choice. They had logged their device use the week prior, and it was great to see them reflect on it.
The focus of our grades 7 and 8 library workshops this year is algorithmic literacy. The aim is to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on society.

@OCDSB There definitely need to be guidelines on maximum acceptable temperatures in classrooms. My daughter is at FPSA and there are not enough spaces with AC there for everyone. Her and her friends are all staying home today.
As a part of my @The_OJCS professional development, I have been taking part in a wonderful course called 'AI and Libraries, for Skeptics' by @LibJuiceAcademy and Tim Ribaric. Here I write about what I've learned about the need for algorithmic literacy.

Grade 8 had a special library "working workshop" today on how to responsibly use ChatGPT to support our work. Students used it to generate ideas and outline suggestions for their public speaking, and also learned how to use it to get invaluable feedback on their written work.
Yesterday was the first time I've ever taught a research skills workshop for a math class! I love the data project that is being launched by Ms. McWhirter and was happy to have a role in helping our students know how to identify credible sources of data with the help of @nearpod
@MrsBennett92@The_OJCS Thank you so much Julie! Mrs. Bennett has a long list of superpowers too... including being a real leader in new tech (like Novel Effect) and global connections at the OJCS!
Grade 8 had an important @CommonSenseEd library workshop today about Hate Speech. This lesson was more relevant than ever for our @The_OJCS students and it was terrible to hear how much hate they see online every day. We discussed the many ways that they can stand against it.
With @The_OJCS#Innovation Day coming up next month, here are some great stories to inspire students. All of them have the potential to lead to a great class project too.

This week, grade 3 enjoyed a fun language arts workshop on idioms. We started by reading the fabulous book 'Monkey Business' by Wallace Edwards. Students then had the opportunity to sink their teeth into the lesson by illustrating their favourite idioms.
