@GGunthorp@JRcowfarmer It is because of cattle's long gestation period. Way too easy to turn over chickens and hogs and run it like a factory. They are trying it with mega dairies. But 40% cull rates and 9 months until a replacement is the reason it has taken so long.
@farmersam5488 Generally you can gross 3x the revenue per acre when you put it thru cows. Just like solar can gross $75k-100k an acre (retail value of electricity).
@farmersam5488 I live in the largest dairy cluster of Illinois. While no mega dairies, it absolutely was the large grain farmers who ran the cash rents to $350-400. Solar accounts for less than 1% here
SpaceX and Tesla are each building 100GW/year of solar production capacity as fast as possible, but natural gas will still be needed to supplement and bootstrap solar for several years.
The limiting factor for nat gas turbine production is casting the blades & vanes. By doing in-house casting at SpaceX, we can accelerate nat gas turbines coming online by up to 18 months, which is a profound game-changer.
@matt_fernley Any thoughts on lithium chile's arizaro and the Canadian gov review? I understand China union is ready to invest >$1b there in Argentina
@riley_sides@serGreenfield Sooo many wild cards. You both make great points. The land is being hoarded, and young ppl are pissed about it. I think there will be hefty estate taxes in the future. I also think AI will make some land 5x more productive, and render ethanol worthless and solar will 100x
@JC_Pennies@GGunthorp Everyone wants to bitch about it being a closed industry but everyone loves the $15m/30m estate tax exemption. If you want to fix ag and give young ppl a shot you need to start there. Else families will continue to hoard/ consolidate
