"HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE[...]YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME /RIGHTNESS/ IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED."--
Fascinating conversation touching on the history of esotericism, the French occult revival, how the internet makes magic real and a lot more. Could listen to Tara for hours.
ANNOUNCING
I know y'all hate journalists but we will have one (maybe two, details pending) people at camp interviewing folks again, this time on uh less controversial topics ๐
One of them is Tara Isabella Burton, you might remember her as the author of the New Atlantis article about post rationality, Rational Magic
@timebard and I spoke to her this week and I think you guys are really going to love this conversation. Vibecamp is one of her research sites for a book she's working on for a Templeton Foundation-funded, multi-disciplinary and multi-year project called 'Can Beauty Save The World'
We talked to her about transcendence, magic, beauty, religion, and connection - and how one can win at life to the extent that your job is going around to interesting cultural pockets and gatherings and studying them along axes such as beauty and transcendence ๐
Read her work at https://t.co/xRXMFaSkSG!!
(we will have badges to help you identify anyone who might be there interviewing people)
ive talked to three people now who thought vibecamp a week long or more. one of them i convinced to go literally just by telling them that it wasnt. if you think you cant go because you would have to take a week off work youre mistaken, its like a long weekend
@gptbrooke@kidcorvid@hamiltonianurst@Actualwebutante we got criticism for doing pricing tiers last year for not making the later tiers expensive enough! we can't win. but we will do something like that again I'm sure
i uh tried my hand at using Kling lol
@vibecamp_ is a four day gathering where lots of cool and weird things happen, but the main draw is the people - curious, kind, open, odd. It's hard to describe, check out https://t.co/p5baVgBHwh!
