Some complain like Bethany that it is stolen valor for the CCP to celebrate victory over Japan when most of those who fought and died did so under the KMT flag.

I ask you instead: who would celebrate the valor of those men if not China? After all, they fought the Japanese for China, not the KMT. In the aftermath of the civil war, the vast majority of KMT soldiers stayed in China, where they were absorbed into the PLA or went back into civilian life.

Taiwan is certainly not going to celebrate them. As far as our govt is concerned, there was not Victory over Japan, just the End of the War. Taiwan didn’t really suffer much in the war, and those who fought and died were volunteers to fight on the side of Japan. The KMT did not arrive until after.

3 million military died fighting the Japanese in WWII in addition to 15 million civilians. No matter who is in charge of China in this timeline, China should always have the right to celebrate her victory and mourn her dead.
