The teens were living their best lives.
I spent hours cleaning after the event.
Every year on the anniversary of this event, this is the video I get from so many students.
I think I peaked ministry-wise at this moment.

Any youth ministers have that one event they are known for? This one is mine.
Picture this. Six years ago I get my hands on a bunch of giant watermelons.
At the last minute, rain forced us inside.
So here we are, playing games that involve smashing watermelons inside.
Sometimes I think I’m good at my job.
Then other times, I think it’s a good idea to have 10 teenagers throw 300 tennis balls at me so we can get the balls back in their storage bin.
You win some and you lose some, am I right?

Life update: I now own 285 tennis balls for kids and youth ministry things.
Penny update: she thinks all of these tennis balls are hers. I did give her one. She kept dropping it in the bag so she could grab a new one.

I was talking with a friend on Sunday about how tired I was going into Holy Week. She ended our conversation by saying,
“Thanks for being exhausted.”
That phrase has been randomly popping up in my head over the course of this week and it’s gotten me through. So church workers:
Thanks for being exhausted. Thanks for planning services and Seder meals and Easter breakfasts. Thanks for showing up for people over and over again, reminding them that Jesus died and rose again for them. That Jesus sees them at their core and loves them over and over again
People may question why I come up with this kind of content for WLC’s platforms. But this is why.
I get to show our pastoral team laughing and playing together. I get to show that our staff is made up of real people.
I love being the social media manager for WLC 🙌

I’m cleaning out Sunday School classrooms at one our campuses today and found this sign one of our kids made. Love it when kids set realistic expectations.
Also not exactly sure how this fits into yesterdays lesson of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet but that’s fine.

I would say this is the first time I’ve had an exchange like this. But it isn’t. I end up at these conferences (both within the LCMS and outside) and I run into people whose lives have been changed by Jane Dibbern.
Jane Dibbern is the GOAT. That is all.
I was at a conference last week and a woman comes up to me as I was walking into the session I was presenting at. She says, “Are you Jane Dibbern’s daughter?” I told her that I was. She says to me, “Your mom was my youth minister when I was in high school…
She told me she had heard through the grapevine that my dad had passed away and asked if he had been sick. This woman was only the 2nd person I’ve ever met (outside of my dad’s family) in my entire life who only knew my dad as healthy. So I briefly explained his story to her.
The Oak Hill campus has 0 stairs…just one giant ramp. In the winter, I bring Penny up to get her energy out.
Penny loves fetching and loves the ramp. That’s it
