When you enter San Francisco, you should see safe, clean streets. Too often, our freeway on and off ramps have fallen short. Thanks to a new agreement with Caltrans, the City now has the authority to clean state highway sections and clear encampments. This will help us connect people to services and deliver the street conditions our residents and visitors deserve.

City contracting is broken. If San Franciscans had any idea how many wasteful “feel-good” mandates have been piled into our city contracts over the decades — to make competitive bidding LESS competitive, and goods and services MORE expensive — they’d be as infuriated as I am.

Make no mistake: this is the “waste” in “waste, fraud and abuse.” It’s a textbook example of “Everything Bagel” governance (described in @ezraklein and @DKThomp’s Abundance) that aspires to do far too much, and accomplishes far too little.

It needs to be fixed. I’m grateful to Board President @RafaelMandelman for his leadership in taking this worthwhile effort on, and to Supervisor @BilalMahmood for joining with me as a co-sponsor. (1/2)

It’s official! Today I signed legislation to make @GCFC_SF the newest professional team in SF. GCFC will be putting in $10m to privately fund improvements to Kezar Stadium, which include a new field, new seating, and a new scoreboard.  Public access will remain the same.

@u_chill @SFMTA_Muni If we audited @sfgov I’m willing to bet that many of the thousands - whom we employ to phone it in from another City - barely put in 20 hours a week. It’s scamming on an industrial scale.
