Social transformation is not performative, and it's not a spectator sport. Human liberation is the goal and it's hard, life-long work. But anything less than fully *doing* the work makes us complicit in the continued killing of Black bodies.
#LibraryNice#VocationalAwe. Beyond critique = no improvement = no progress = why these #LIS#EDI numbers have. not. changed. See Also, sex/race gender breakdown of latest election. Some of y'all collocated #Antiracism libguides as a performance, and it shows.
They tell us “we don’t want these books in school libraries” and “people can get them at public libraries”
Then it’s “we don’t want them in public libraries” and “people can get them at book stores”
Now they are going after the book stores
@TweetyFreedom@rohitjoycpa@cjtackett That's exactly what they're afraid of. They control the narrative at home (a.k.a. homeschool Christofascist propaganda). But when out in public, they can't control their kids who are naturally curious. They don't want their kids to be curious. They want them to walk in lockstep.
@rohitjoycpa@cjtackett As a librarian, I have read many of the books in the photo. While they are meant for older teens and adults, the books are not sexual like porn. There may be a sex scene or two but most of them read no worse than a PG movie and are a small part of a larger storyline.
@PopCulLibrn@ifihadacoconut@NoetheMatt Before becoming a librarian, I was a minister and was taught that in seminary. I don't know how anyone can survive in librarianship without a counseling background. The span between what's taught in MLS programs & what librarians actually encounter day-to-day is vast.
@NoetheMatt LibraryLand discounts all experience before the MLS. I was a minister before a librarian. Although I have prof training & experience helping people through difficult situations, & have led a congregation, I don't have *library supervision* experience so I'm denied promotions.
@Rae_209@ask_aubry My boyfriend kicked me out of the house he owned but we both lived in. When I took him up on it, he told me *I* should swallow my pride and come back. 🙄
@mdtravisii@BrandonLBradfor His quotes are plucked from sermons, articles, and books. They are for everyone within the context of the overall message. The problem is, people (white people, mostly) will highlight one comforting quote taken out of context, as if that was the only thing King wanted to convey.
@khaleedhayes@AFineBlogger@CristinaAimee@NYCHA @NYCCouncil38 They also have the ability to move (since they surely have first/last/security monies), or rent an Air B&B for the duration. Poor people have nothing in the coffers if this proves to be too much of a burden.
@djlanatron @himissjulie @BlockClubCHI I've never understood why barcodes have to removed/blocked out. If the item has been deleted from the system, people can scan the barcode until they're blue in the face and absolutely nothing will happen. 🤔
@marypagones @himissjulie @BlockClubCHI We put weeded books out for free at the high school library where I worked. No one ever touched them and they we sent them to recycling at the end of every school year.
@himissjulie @BlockClubCHI Most of what are considered classics today are in the pubic domain and available widely across the internet - for free and without restriction. Meanwhile, the school is not teaching Hamlet in every English class & it's very likely those books hadn't been touched in 20 years.
@SolomonPena2022 @calicolocali Wow, you read one book multiple times, written by a white man almost 200 years ago. I suppose you want a gold star on your report card for this foray into literature, but it really just underscores how ignorant you are. Intelligent people read more than just one book.
@EDoggTheRed@cliffschecter Right? Someone who stood up to Trump vs. Trump's hand-picked candidate. It's a real head scratcher why Kemp won and Walker didn't.
@maxberger People who think it sounds strange don't know he spent his formative years as a filthy rich white boy during Apartheid South Africa. And by "formative years," I mean into his 20s. He was raised to be fascist.
