The south door of St Saviourโs Church in Dartmouth is one of the finest medieval doors in England.
It is oak, iron, faith, monarchy and craftsmanship held together in one extraordinary object.
The doorโs ironwork shows a great Tree of Life spreading across the oak.
Around it are two leopards, symbols associated with the Plantagenets, worked into the design with remarkable medieval skill.
The date 1631 appears on the door, but that is not its true beginning. This marks a later refurbishment.
The oak itself was carbon-dated in the 1970s and was found to have been felled before 1372.
A door made before Chaucer had finished his Canterbury Tales.
Still standing after more than six centuries.

@TheCinesthetic So many great movies mentioned in the replies here.
I remember weeping with laughter with the kids watching Liar Liar & Mrs Doubtfire, but Planes, Trains & Automobiles takes some beating. Also, Little Miss Sunshine.
Swans at the medieval Bishopโs Palace in Wells have rung a bell for food for centuries, food drops from the window when they do so at around 1pm every day.
