A new chapter for the River Wye was signed on Sunday as we joined local authorities and environmental partners across England and Wales united behind a new Charter for the River Wye
The Charter sets out a shared commitment to protecting and restoring the river for future generations, bringing together organisations from across the catchment in the first coordinated effort of its kind

A major clean up operation has now been completed at the former unauthorised encampment near the A49/A44 roundabout in Leominster
Specialist teams removed large quantities of waste, including abandoned caravans and vehicles, hazardous materials and fly-tipped rubbish, before restoring and securing the site
The work was carried out carefully and in line with environmental regulations, with measures also taken to help protect local wildlife throughout the operation

Leadership confirmed for the year ahead at Herefordshire Council
At the council’s Annual General Meeting, held on Friday 22 May:
▶️ Cllr Jonathan Lester has been re-elected as Leader for the coming civic year.
▶️ Cllr Roger Phillips has been re-elected as Chairman of the Council, with Cllr Kevin Tillett reappointed as Vice Chairperson.
▶️ Membership of committees, panels and external bodies has also been confirmed, establishing the council’s governance for the year ahead.
Cllr Phillips: “It is a great honour for somebody like me, that was born and bred in Herefordshire, to be Herefordshire’s first citizen and I thank you very much. I hope we continue to have an enjoyable and hard-working year ahead.”
Cllr Lester: “I am deeply honoured to have been re-elected as Leader of Herefordshire Council. As we now enter the final year of this current administration, I remain as determined as ever to deliver the very best for Herefordshire in everything we do.”

We joined forces with West Mercia Police and partner agencies in a major rural crime crackdown across south Herefordshire
The multi-agency operation targeted offences including waste crime, uninsured vehicles, illegal fuel use, animal welfare breaches and wider environmental offences affecting rural communities
Council officers carried out checks on waste carriers, food safety and livestock transport, while wider activity also included vehicle enforcement, farm security visits and community safety engagement

Cabinet has approved the new Carbon Management Plan aimed at cutting emissions, improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy across Council services
The plan sets out practical actions over the next five years including electric vehicles, greener buildings, solar energy and lower carbon operations, building on the significant progress already made, with Council emissions reduced by around 64% since 2008/09
