There’s nothing more alarming than when someone blurts out, “What are you doing on [insert any day]?” and then waits expectantly for your response.

It should be illegal not to state the activity first - i.e., “I’m having a barbecue on Saturday. Would you like to come?” Simply coming straight out with “What are you doing on Saturday?” is a trap! You could be about to be asked to help someone move house (the horror) or to give them a lift to the airport (the horror), rather than attending a nice, pleasant barbecue.

It’s an irresponsible way of asking a question and causes completely unnecessary spikes in blood pressure.

“What are you doing on Saturday?” The only reasonable answer the person should expect is “Depends.”
