He IS voting in Germany, he's just voting in an extremely roundabout and unconventional way by manipulating public consensus and the flow of information
@Critical_Scribe I think that is partially a result of the fact that you *can* play as them as the MC. Larian would be better off leaving all the companions purely as NPCs and have the various origins be exclusive to the player character. They already toyed with this idea with the Dark Urge.
Honestly, my biggest issue with the companions in BG3 is that they suffered from “I could be the main character” backstory syndrome.
Of course Gale is a walking magic nuke who slept with the Goddess of Magic
Of course Karlach is one of Zariel’s top warriors.
Of course Wyll was a super famous adventurer.
So on and so forth.
The opening of the game does give it some context, so I’ll give it that. But as I was getting to know the party I was eventually going “wow, you too are super important, huh? What a surprise.”
There is such a lack of “I’m Phillip, a competent adventurer just doing his best,” that I ended up roleplaying my character to be that guy who had to be the grounding factor for everyone.
And you can make those kinds of backstories compelling btw, you don’t need to always make your side casts the center of plots that could be entire games themselves.
I'll go further: Harry Potter is proof that Vibes-based Worldbuilding is more powerful than Mechanics. When done well it appeals to a broader audience and can stick with them for a lifetime
That's why Rowling is bigger than Sanderson, despite having a fraction as many books
There’s a pretty massive difference between a terrorist state dropping 2,000 pound bombs on civilians and a 70 something Senator who relished it dying of natural causes. Please grow a fucking brain cell.
You can understand these Italian girls being pissed off. What is the point of them working out, doing their make-up, getting their hair done, etc. when, no matter how much effort they put in, it'll be out-done by some woman simply being black?
If it were the other way around, black women would be pissed off but at least everyone would understand that objective truth was being honoured. As it is, it's a complete lie: innate beauty is being artificially negated.
People rightly talk about the film's groundbreaking digital effects, but the heart of Jurassic Park is the scientist overwhelmed with awe at seeing the creatures he's studied his whole life alive and in the flesh. And it doesn't work unless Sam Neill sells the hell out it.
If you don’t teach the Bible at least as literature suddenly you lose the references across the classics. You don’t understand Shakespeare, so they stop teaching that too. The dominos fall and the public doesn’t understand its own culture. It’s great for year zero communists. It’s great for people who want to paint western culture as insignificant or unremarkable. It’s great for people who are concerned when they see a bookshelf at the racial makeup of the authors, those that are upset at all the old dead white men.
There’s an episode from Cheers where Frasier and another guy are quoting from Richard II and Cyrano de Bergerac.
34 million Americans watched this episode.
This film gives a strong vibe of a director who mostly does modern films and doesn’t really care about historical accuracy when it comes to the distant past.
The armour is wrong. The clothing is wrong. The casting is wrong. And he’s using Viking ships.
No care taken.
