It is the hopeless double tragedy of Government dependence ( serikali saidia) and poor leadership that will perpetuate the undermine of developing economies. Africa has to lean into the proven systems of enclave economies to cushion itself from economic turbulance, especially during election periods that make whole economic systems come to a halt. Organizing in communities where capital can be pooled and redistributed within the larger economy provides micro systems that ensure financial dignity and dependability on something the population actively builds!

-Proper qualifications and merit will matter

I work for a company that got integrated in Tanzania, South Africa, Malawi, Botswana etc. Kenya, everyone wants a cut. Every single ministry I approached wanted to know what is in it for the person signing the deal.

WAKE UP, KENYA.🚨

Mombasa Port is at risk of a congestion crisis after Ruto govt went for the hustlers.

KRA hiked the container floor from KSh 2.5 million to KSh 3.2 million. That’s KSh 700,000 extra overnight.

Since 21 August, some traders have stopped collecting their boxes. The port is going quiet. Containers are just sitting.

Small-scale importers who share those 40-foot containers from China cannot absorb this. Their margins are finished.

Some shops in Gikomba, Kamukunji and Nyamakima have already shut. More will close.

These are not tycoons. These are the same people who were sold the “Hustler Nation” then hit with a bigger bill.

KRA can hide behind “benchmarks” and “verification.” On the ground, this is another raid on the small man.

You vote them in. They raise the floor. Your cargo stays at the port. Your shop dies.

Port officials say the low activity will continue. Businesses are already bleeding.

This is what happens when a government forgets who put it there.
