All this talk in the media about freezing alcohol duty in the budget...we're already taxed 20 times more than a pint in Germany.
It wont make a difference to the vast majority. It's a smoke and mirrors headline.
A VAT reduction is the only solution to saving the sector
The Hospitality sector is seeing more closures than ever before.
The one single mechanism to reverse the trend, is to CUT VAT.
Part of my interview on @BBCBreakfast this morning:
‘THIS IS AN EMERGENCY’ - MANCHESTER’S HOSPITALITY SCENE CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT TO REDUCE VAT TO 10%
Our hospitality scene is in crisis.
Restaurants across the country are closing at an alarming rate, and many chefs, owners and operators across Manchester are ‘on a cliff edge’.
They are calling for a reduction in VAT to 10% from the current crippling rate of 20%, more than double the average seen across Europe.
It would ease the pressure they’re facing from rocketing energy bills and the cost of raw materials.
Your favourite restaurant could close tomorrow.

For all those out there who keep telling me that Hospitality should "pay their way and asking for a VAT cut is unrealistic"
A vat cut to 10% in Hospitality would cost c£4bn (HMRC) - FACT
Tax generated by Hospitality in 2022 was c£54bn (UKH) - FACT
Hospitality generates enormous amounts in tax to fund public services. We still will - FACT
However we have to be here to do that. - FACT
It will just be 50bn rather than 54bn, which will reduce annually to nothing through increased tax returns so Hospitality will end up paying the same but through Corp Tax rather than VAT tax (the irony!) - as shown in Europe! - FACT
Cutting Taxes generates taxes! - FACT
10% of something is better than 20% of nothing. - FACT
If you want to argue with me argue the facts.

Had been saying no to interviews for a while, as getting abuse in the comments can sometimes take its toll.
But was important to speak up on this & speak from genuine experience of 21 years in the business.I’d best get my hard hat on now in the online article comments section 🙈
