@edutopia CO State 8th graders are taking math and science. We already did ours. Took 3 days. First time we didn't do via laptop carts, so actually easier organization-wise this year. Students seemed pretty disengaged. Lots of questions about why we have to do this etc.
This weekend has been full of awesome resources! All math teachers interested in designing a more culturally relevant and supportive classroom should check out Transcend's Design Cards! https://t.co/d1UsUHRjqn
“The representation within the pedagogy that we put in front of our students holds power even when we are unaware of it.” Do all of your students see themselves reflected in your classroom materials?

Sooo many ideas about incorporating these ideas into my math class so that my students can start to see themselves as mathematicians.

Every year when I teach identity politics I ask the same question on the first day of class. Rather than the usual icebreakers, I ask: “How does your family / your culture cook rice?” 1/
*singing to the tune of 'Dem Bones' by James Weldon Johnson* The grit research's connected to the self-regulation research, the self regulation research's connected to the self-control research . . .
Oh search terms. Searching for papers on grit (as in the perseverance + passion definition by Duckworth); These are different grit grain sizes for birds. Turns out, that's a whole literature too. :)
Been collecting information associated with teacher licensure, and looking at my Praxis scores. I'm "adequate" in writing. Wanna know what people pay me thousands of dollars to do every day? Write. #iamnotatestscore#youarenotatestscore#standarizedtestsarenotlife
In my initial literature sweep, constructs associated with curiosity so far include: motivation, interest, creativity, adaptation, flow, self-regulation (particularly attention) and Curious George.
Delving into the research on curiosity. So far I I want to do some kind of mash up of the research and Curious George, thanks to my coworker Tanya's comment :) #creativityandcuriosity#populace#curiosityresearch
