the GDR "never taking responsibility" for the holocaust is crazy when it was the one of the two german states that actually denazified while in the FRG nazis stayed in power all over the place. but ofc the only way to fix the holocaust is to support iSSrael do another genocide
Mathematician here.
The harmonic series:
1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + ...
Diverges, but if every additional term takes 1 minute, you won't see anywhere near $1 Billion in your lifetime. You won't even see $100.
1 year has 24(60)(365.25) = 525,960 minutes.
100 years has 52,596,000 minutes.
The harmonic series, after n terms, for large n, gives approximately:
ln(n) + 0.577216 + 1/(2n)
Setting n = 52,596,000 gives approximately:
18.36
An instant $1 Billion tax free, is much better than $18.36 in 100 years.
And let's not forget inflation! Assuming an inflation rate of 2% per year, $18.36 in 100 years will have the purchasing power of...
18.36(1-0.02)^100 = 2.43
It would be worth as much as $2.43 today... and then it's taxed!
Take the instant $1 Billion... even if it were taxed.
the harmonic series is divergent but the green button is still so much better lol. even with 1+1+1+1+... which grows much quicker than the harmonic series you only get 500k per year you'll never make it to 1B, it would take 2000 years. people underestimate how much 1B is
Mathematics.
Green button = You instantly receive $1 billion (tax free).
Red button = Each minute, you receive an amount specified by the harmonic series: $1, $0.5, $0.33…
You can press just once. Which do you press?
https://t.co/oqNvAyYIDa its very ironic because "regular expressions" were supposed to be the thing that is always linear in the length of the input string to match, regardless of how complex the expression is. like thats literally what a regular language is mathematically
it literally is part of the reason btw discord had to get rid of go and move to Rust because the GC breaks were causing too much latency. also the go ecosystem is full of algorithmically suboptimal libraries
i've seen go projects do things like repeated string concatenation instead of using a rope (quadratic complexity and the GC starts exploding and turning a 2 second task into a 45 sec one) or use nonlinear regex, non-NFA "regex" has lit. caused a cloudflare outage before
like yea go has its niche but not everything has to be for everyone. notice how all of these projects are enterprise cloud slop with specific needs also
the authors of Go explicitly say that it is not a power tool but "good enough" slop to give to undergrad code monkeys that you cant trust with a systems programming language. this is why it's uninteresting to people that care about their craft more deeply. its just Java again
Google created Go
Cloudflare uses Go
Uber uses Go
Dropbox uses Go
Twitch uses Go
Docker is written in Go
Kubernetes is written in Go
Prometheus is written in Go
Terraform is written in Go
Fast compilation.
Simple concurrency.
Built for infrastructure.
Why is Go still underrated among developers?
