A video shows 42 year old Eli Rafael on October 7 as he drove into danger to rescue his sister Sharon. He was killed by Hamas during the attempt. Sharon was murdered shortly afterward.

New today in Qatargate: This message, captured by Israeli police, documents an exchange during the war between the military spokesperson under PM Netanyahu and Netanyahu’s chief adviser - his closest associate and chief spin doctor- Yonathan Urich.

In the exchange, the military spokesperson forwards a message he received from lobbyist operating for Qatar, written in English, congratulating him for successfully inserting pro-Qatari messaging into Israeli media as part of a specific task. He then sends it onward to Netanyahu’s inner circle, clearly proud of the result.
Urich replies in Hebrew - “shitting bricks”- not in panic, but in excited and approving way: an enthusiastic response that amounts to a congratulatory pat on the back.

This exchange, think sources in the police, demonstrates that Urich, Netanyahu’s most senior adviser, understood that people operating in the Prime Minister’s immediate proximity were coordinating with Qatar, approved and possibly was part. This story was published by @avishaigrinzaig

These are dramatic days in Israel regarding #Qatargate — Qatar’s influence and alleged espionage operation involving the Prime Minister’s Office.
Below is a list of revelations from just the past 24 hours.

The story is complex, but not too much.
The bottom line is this: Qatar paid - through intermediaries - more than one of the Israeli prime minister’s closest advisers.
Now, everyone is blaming everyone else.

1. Eli Feldstein, former military spokesman in the Prime Minister’s Office, who is charged with the intentional transmission of classified information with the aim of harming state security, gave an interview to @kann_news in which he claimed that Tzachi Braverman, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, had prior knowledge of the investigation and told him: “I can shut this down.”
According to Feldstein, Braverman approached him (in a parking lot in the Qirya) after realizing that a Military Information Security investigation was underway within the IDF. Feldstein said Braverman claimed he could disrupt or interfere with the investigation, presented him with names of future suspects, and asked whether they were connected to Feldstein or to the PMs Office.

2. According to @N12News at least some of the messages exchanged between Feldstein and political consultant Srulik Einhorn, as part of the Qatar operation, were also forwarded to Yonatan Urich. a story by @Ofer_Hadad

3. Yonatan Urich is the closest communications adviser to Netanyahu - his most trusted and central aide.
According to @N12News he was kept informed in real time about the insertion of pro-Qatari messages into Israeli media.

4. The pro-Qatari messages included, among other things:
Claims that Egypt could no longer be trusted, particularly its intelligence services, portrayed as driven by economic interests linked to Hamas smuggling.
Assertions that Qatar should now lead the hostage negotiations, after having “proven itself” in previous deals.
Messaging framing Qatar as a strategic and indispensable mediator, while discrediting alternative actors.

5. Feldstein - who denies knowing his salery came from Qatar- communicated these messages to journalists across multiple Israeli media outlets, without any disclosure. The journalists understood the messaging to be coming from the Prime Minister’s Office of Israel - not from Qatari sources. Only natural when they are briefed by the spokesperson of the PM.

6. Also this evening, @Roi_Yanovsky published today that videos with English subtitles were sent by individuals close to the Prime Minister to Qatari representatives. These videos compiled Israeli media reports reflecting the pro-Qatari narratives, with the aim of demonstrating the effectiveness of the influence campaign inside Israel.

7. Urich, for his part, places responsibility on Feldstein, claiming he was unaware that Feldstein was working on behalf of Qatar.
This claim stands in tension with Urich’s own legal record.
In earlier proceedings before Israeli Courts, Urich’s attorney did not deny that Urich had worked for Qatar - and in fact explicitly defended the legitimacy of that work.

8. Prime Minister Netanyahu has dismissed all allegations against Urich as “fake,” publicly describing the case as politically motivated.
Netanyahu’s own position regarding Feldstein has shifted over time.
In November 2024, following the filing of an indictment against Feldstein, Netanyahu publicly stood by him, stating:
“Eli Feldstein is an Israeli patriot, a passionate Zionist. There is no chance that he would do anything with the intention of endangering the security of the state.”
By April 2025, the Prime Minister’s Office changed course.
In an interview with Channel 12 News, then- Prime Minister’s spokesperson Omer Dostri denied that Feldstein had served as Netanyahu’s spokesman. This evening the PM office is saying:
“This is a long chain of recycled and false claims, all of them based on the testimony of a person with clear personal interests".
