THE THREE ROOT CAUSES OF MOST COMPANY PROBLEMS
Met with a growth-stage SaaS company whose top priority is to grow New Customer Revenue, but they're having challenges doing this. Turns out there is nobody outside of Sales whose sole goal is to grow new revenue. The CEO is balancing a massive spreadsheet of initiatives across various functions, labeled as "New Revenue".
The recommendation here was clear. change the structure (appoint a clear DRI (directly responsible person) for New Revenue) and the incentives (have a team within every function whose sole goal is New Revenue). The dedicated teams dotted line into the DRI and own the outcome. (Lots of details here, but you get the gist).
Working with CEOs across all company stages, if I've seen a common thread, it's that nearly every company problem is caused due to one of 3 things: (a) wrong person, (b) wrong structure or (c) wrong incentives.
CEOs and leaders: for 90% of pain points you face, I bet you're going to find changing one or more of the 3 things above will improve or fix the situation.

Users don't hate change.
• Users hate when you take control from them.
• Users hate when your change shows no value for them.
• Users hate when they’ve invested in learning your design, only for you to disregard that investment.

It’s you, not them.
