Keep an eye out for our summer book club sign up! We'll be reading Heroine by @MindyMcGinnis
It's completely different from our other books so far. #LCSbookclub
@MrsR_BowmanPE In The Secret Life of Bees, the dad makes the daughter kneel in grits. That was the first time I had ever heard of that - and the rice is a different version of the same terrible thing!
A5: The old saying to never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his moccasins always comes to mind during our book club reads. Actually, that's a big purpose in these discussions! #LCSbookclub
A5: This book is a bit mature for most jr high kids, but I've recommended it to a few I know could relate. This author's other titles are amazing as well. #LCSbookclub
A5: As usual, it gives me insight into different family relationships and cultures. We didn't talk about the dad, but his lack of engagement with his kids had to have a big impact. #LCSbookclub
@MrsR_BowmanPE Yes! I kind of doubt many kids go to that much trouble to write two entire assignments, but I'm sure at least the thoughts of what they'd like to write are different than what actually gets turned in.
A4: I liked how she'd write the rough draft and then the one she actually turned in. Page 39 got me - when she had gotten her period and her mom hit her and scolded her. #LCSbookclub
A2: Interesting also that X has always been the defender of her brother. You'd think the mom would have trouble with that since she's so traditional. #LCSbookclub
