On AI detectors: "Attempts to validate results through linguistic markers, multiple tools, or comparisons with past work introduce confirmation bias rather than independent verification. "

Could you imagine offering teachers a "learning menu" like this – or maybe a playlist or choice board?

DOK is complex... I do not agree with all the levels on this chart. I asked AI to analyze it and it seemed to think these were all accurate. I'm not surprised, fairly consistently AI has gotten DOK levels wrong when I've asked for it. Remember, AI is not smarter than you! #DOKchat
If you haven't heard, Microsoft Flip as we know it is being retired.
So many emotions. Sad. Grateful. Disappointed. Thankful.
I've seen EdTech tools and companies come and go for the last 12+ years.
Flipgrid was different. (Yes, in the end it was called Microsoft Flip, but to many of us, it'll always be Flipgrid.)
The product was unique ... But the community was INCREDIBLE.
Educators rallied around Flipgrid not for the product but for the mission: empower student voice. Or, as Flipgrid cofounder @design2research said, bringing the back row of the class to the front row.
I made lifelong friends because of Flipgrid.
The tool was incredible. (I could say "is" because "still in Microsoft Teams" and all, but that'll disqualify lots of us ... and today's Microsoft Flip is NOT the best version of itself.)
Flipgrid did elegantly what other tools tried to do -- and just didn't do as well.
(And I'm on team @HollyClarkEdu -- don't come at me with "x tool can record video." Nothing else does what it did in the way it did.)
I'm grateful and thankful for the people that made Flipgrid special ...
... but mostly I'm just disappointed.
If you stay around for a while, you see this happen. A product that was someone's passion / pride and joy ... gets acquired by a company that doesn't care as much. And something special gets lost from the world.
Students and teachers lose in this decision.
All in the attempt to make Microsoft profitable and efficient.
My heartfelt thanks to those that made Flipgrid special, including @Taralson, @Savvy_Educator, @jessxbo, @GridPalGeorge, @FelyTeachnology, @annkozma723, @MrCoachK15 and so many more.
I'll try to find new tools. (Please don't recommend any here. Not ready for that yet.) But for right now, I just need to settle my emotions and say ...
To my #FlipgridFam ... Thank you 💚
@CmonMattTHINK My opinion is that triangle congruence proofs don’t help master deductive reasoning. Many proofs at an upper level do…but the classic two column SAS proof is not a lead up to that.
Dear @NCLeg, my veteran teachers wish to thank you for the 2% raise in this year’s budget. They humbly request that future raises at least be pegged to inflation, which averages 3.28 annually and was 8.26% last year. That’s the LEAST we can do to retain our top talent.

@whatasheila@FixingEducation It’s not that easy. Someone still has to supervise the kids. We can’t just leave them alone. It’s more about hiring another person to watch them to give you a break. It’s all about $$
@Year5KS2@teachergoals With 20 years, then that gives them no time to learn to become a good admin. At 20 many are counting down the years until retirement. Being a good teacher and being a good admin are not the same skills.

@alicekeeler I’m also in NC and hate that chart! But the catch is, since is state wide, there are no other real options! It’s not like you can shop around for better pay. The private schools pay about the same since they know they don’t really have to compete. You’re stuck.
@TeachMrReed @ShawnaH67903024 Cop out for sure! It’s a rare day that kids “get away with things” purely because they have a hat on. It’s a hat, not an invisibility cloak. They don’t ban you from wearing baseball hats at the bank because you may be there to rob them! It’s just an excuse.
