I was Yangoing a few months back. Picked up a business woman. Said she was struggling with her staff. Two girls had developed a cocaine habit and were constantly high. She fired them, but was now stressed about her alcoholic manager. Moral decay isn’t just some cliche term. It’s real and it has happened to us. We’ve become a low-trust society without values, honour, self-control, or self-accountability. Anything and everything goes. You see it everywhere. Folks living for their next high or state of drunkenness. Families crumbling under the weight of poor leadership, infidelity, addiction, negligence and disrespect. Strange and abnormal practices like secret side families being normalised. Businesses falling apart because excellent human capital is nowhere to be found. Cartels running amok and littering our streets with cheap drugs and cheap alcohol. Our borders becoming more and more porous to a point we’re now visitors in our own country. Failed justice system which will take much more than a batch of newly appointed judges to correct. Children raising themselves because their parents are equal parts the victims of trauma and the perpetrators of trauma. Churches internally struggling with credible leadership while externally putting on a brave face and preaching a gospel distorted by so much hypocrisy and sin, that the formidable miracles of old remain Bible tales. The cycle churns, day to day, week to week, month to month. A 61-year-old country; still largely clueless about who she is and all she’s capable of.
