Ten-man England edge a World Cup classic to beat Mexico 3-2 at Estadio Azteca. Worth staying up for.

Jude Bellingham put Thomas Tuchel's team in a wonderful position with two goals in as many minutes before Julian Quinones responded with a fine finish.

Jarell Quansah was shown a straight red card early in the second half for a high challenge on Jesus Gallardo, much to the delight of the home support — only for Harry Kane to score his 14th World Cup goal from the penalty spot just a few minutes later.

Kane then conceded a penalty after clipping Brian Gutierrez — the resulting spot kick dispatched by Raul Jimenez — but England managed to weather the storm and seal victory in a stadium where Mexico rarely taste defeat.

Next up for England — Norway in Miami on Saturday.

Mexico beat Ecuador to win their first men's World Cup knockout stage match since 1986.

Goals from Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez — the two scorers in Mexico's 2-0 victory in their World Cup opener against South Africa — earned their country a place in the last 16, where they will face either England or DR Congo in Mexico City on July 5.

From the high of their win over Germany, Ecuador, who finished the game with 10 men following Piero Hincapie's red card for covering his mouth in a situation of confrontation, come back down to earth at a raucous Estadio Azteca.
