@Starbucks: Why aren’t you following your own reusable cup policy?
Starbucks’ official policy is that any beverage at a company-owned store with cafe seating (meaning the vast majority of stores) “will be served in a ceramic mug or glass unless a customer specifically requests a to-go cup.”
But Starbucks is frequently violating its own policy. During our Starbucks recycling investigation, we were never once served our beverage in a reusable cup; and 88% of the time, we were not asked if the drink was for here or to-go.
It appears the default at Starbucks is single-use disposable cups, and not reusables.

This Mars wrapper has a 1986 date on it. It still looks like trash you could have dropped yesterday, but it was pulled off a beach in 2019.
That's the problem with plastic, It doesn't really go "away." It fades, cracks, shreds, and breaks into smaller and smaller pieces until it becomes microplastic in the sand, water, food chain, and eventually us.
Bring a bag to the beach with you the next time you go. You might be surprised by what you find.
The EU has invited Taliban officials to Brussels to discuss a migration deal — and today I am shaken and deeply disturbed by this.
This is the same Taliban that banned girls from secondary schools and forced them into marriage. The same Taliban that, earlier this month, arrested dozens of women in Herat for how they were dressed. The same Taliban that detains, beats and executes women who dare to speak out or break their rules.
Through its system of gender apartheid, the Taliban have erased women and girls from public life. Europe must not legitimise a regime responsible for one of the worst human rights crises in the world.
Any engagement with the Taliban must begin and end with the rights of Afghan women and girls.
On May 29 the White House published a 412-page rule letting political appointees sign off on every federal science grant and demoting expert peer review to advisory only. Comments close July 13. Tell Congress to block it. https://t.co/hl5cROsPyu

"I like a book that carries the dirty fingerprints of the people opening the book to read a line or two, ogle a picture, drip some croissant crumbles on it, and then put it back upside down on the shelf in the wrong alphabetical row.”

Today is World Liver Day 2026.
Here are 8 things your liver actually wants you to know.
1
There is no such thing as a "liver detox."
Your liver runs phase I and II detoxification 24/7 on its own.
No juice cleanse, no milk thistle, no herbal detox speeds this up.
In fact several have caused liver injury - the opposite of the claim.
2
Alcohol has no safe dose.
Liver harm begins from the first drink.
The old "moderate drinking is protective" myth came from flawed studies contaminated by abstainer bias - now debunked by Mendelian randomization.
Zero ml is best.
3
"Natural" supplements are now a leading cause of acute liver failure.
Ashwagandha. Green tea extract. Garcinia. Kratom. High-dose turmeric. Giloy/Tinospora.
They dominate drug-induced liver injury registries across India, the US, and Europe.
Natural ≠ safe.
4
Coffee is genuinely liver-protective.
2–3 cups/day (caffeinated or decaf) lowers the risk of fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
One of the very few dietary interventions with real, replicated evidence.
5
Fatty liver (MASLD) now affects ~1 in 3 adults worldwide.
A 7–10% body-weight loss:
• clears Liver fat
• reduces inflammation
• can regress early fibrosis
No approved drug currently beats this. Your plate and feet are the first-line therapy.
6
Sugar-sweetened drinks independently cause fatty liver.
Fructose is metabolized almost entirely by the liver - straight into fat.
One daily soda raises MASLD risk even after adjusting for total calories.
Lesser is better.
7
Get vaccinated against hepatitis B. Get screened for HBV and HCV at least once in your lifetime.
HBV vaccine prevents >95% of chronic infection, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
Hepatitis C is curable in 8-12 weeks with >95% success - but most carriers don't know they have it.
8
Exercise protects the liver independent of weight loss.
150 min/week moderate OR 75 min vigorous activity reduces liver fat and stiffness - even when the scale doesn't move.
Movement is "medicine".

PS: we also need a liver emoji
Feeling quite inspired by recent tweets from all over the world, people just going out and tidying up. Decided I am going to keep this street tidy which leads into my housing estate #lovewhereyoulive
Every living cell in your body contains mRNA. Chemical-free food doesn’t exist. Synthetic doesn’t mean harmful. Vaccines don’t cause autism. Natural doesn’t mean safe. GMOs aren’t dangerous. Chemtrails are a lie.
Science isn’t an opinion.
It's time to ban balloons and balloon releases. There are far better ways to celebrate a special occasion or to say goodbye to a loved one.

Scammers are getting creative — now they’re sending texts pretending to be courts, complete with a fake seal that says 'Slate of Colorado.'
News flash: courts don’t text you demanding money. So: don’t click, don’t pay, just laugh and delete.
Let’s keep each other safe — Don’t reply to these texts or emails and stop these scam artists in their tracks!
