People who rant about rules of the road for cyclists don't understand how normies ride bikes.
Sometimes we're on a sidewalk.
Sometimes we're in a lane with cars.
Sometimes we're in a bus lane.
Sometimes we're on a shared use path.
Sometimes we're rolling stop signs and going contraflow on a 1-way street.
We're finding paths that have the least amount of conflict with impatient & dangerous people driving cars.
If you're the type whose blood boils at the thought of people getting around on bicycles, neither one of us wants to share space.
We want the same thing — fewer conflicts between bicycles & motor vehicles.
A reminder that a "cyclist" is just a person riding a bicycle. When that person isn't riding a bicycle, they are still a normal person. They may also sometimes drive a car, making them a "motorist" 😱
"Cycling" is not some secret, elite club. Anyone can be one by riding a bike.
The most important thing about this amazing Paris transformation is how fast it happened —how fast people on bikes “appeared” —once streets were transformed. You can’t write this off as “#Paris was always this way,” because it wasn’t.
It took leadership.

It is truly mind-boggling how people who claim to be concerned about road safety ignore the well-established evidence of effective interventions.

@sciam measured the efficiency of locomotion for various species on the planet. Humans on foot are mediocre. Humans on bikes blew all away!
@HNLTransitFan@DailyBusPhoto@hnldts Thanks for that. It is so relatively inexpensive to support. We were up to 4,000 trips a day, but that didn’t seem to matter.
@joeykatzen@HNLTransitFan@hnldts The non profit, Bikeshare Hawaii had to shut down due to not having any financial support. Overall, the system is starving financially, and what we’re seeing is its slow demise.
@DailyBusPhoto@HNLTransitFan@hnldts Also, they’ve talked about integrating it with the Holo card since before I got it launched in 2017. I tried to convince them how much Biki could do to support rail and reduce traffic congestion, but alas, they focus primarily on The Bus and HandiVan.
@DailyBusPhoto@HNLTransitFan@hnldts It needs support now. The operator is not doing well and will have to continue to cut their services and maybe close stations used by residents since they make less $$ on those versus tourist locations.
"Bike Share Toronto statistics show that ridership on its network of shared bikes has increased dramatically since 2015, when 665,000 bike trips were made annually. In 2023, that shot up to 5.7 million trips."

More car lanes draw out more car drivers, which then fills up the car lanes.
More bike lanes draw out more bike riders, which then fills up the bike lanes.
Induced demand isn't inherently good or bad, it just is.
