Disabled curator, writer & academic for hire. PhD candidate @BristolUni researching disability in animation on- and off-screen. I also draw a mean stick figure.

@TinyWriterLaura@angryrobotbooks Probably The Bloody Chamber & Other Stories by Angela Carter. Combines my love of gothic horror, short stories, fairy tales and Angela Carter herself. Re-read it last week over Halloween 🎃
@NightAtKendalls Yeah I remember an asthma nurse 2 years ago moving me onto dry-powder inhalers because she was worried about the impact on the environment. I couldn’t use them properly so demanded to switch back. Like I care about my carbon footprint and all, but I also like breathing so 🤷🏻♀️
This is embarrassing, and I know I haven’t been active on this dying platform for years, but I’ve been struggling with carer burnout recently and feeling a bit isolated, so… Just wanted to say hello.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that, on your 30th birthday, people will comment on that number approximately 30 billion times. And it’s not even lunchtime yet.
Academia is a culture that values over-working and extracurricular activities. With a body that struggles to function long enough to do the bare minimum it’s easy to get caught in a cycle of self-loathing & imposter syndrome. Feeling very tired & bitter right now and I hate it
Hilariously I always insisted my PhD research would be focused on physical disability because I wasn’t qualified to write about neurodivergence, only to find out I am most likely neurodivergent because of issues arising whilst doing my PhD.
Is that a perfect example of irony?
Sea Beast was… fine. Wendell & Wild’s narrative could have been tighter, but it was a great watch and the craftwork was exquisite.
But also, justice for Masaaki Yuasa! Who really should have a nomination by now if the world was a fair place.
My own personal feelings about the Oscar’s continued ignorance towards non-Ghibli anime aside (VERY sore about the Inu-Oh snub)
If you had to include another Netflix-distributed animated film, wouldn’t Wendell and Wild have been the better choice?
Already panic-buying planners, calendars and stationary, for THIS will be the year I finally become more organised. Or the stuff I bought goes unused and takes up even more space.
2022 was a real rollercoaster for me. Started strong with a professional highlight curating Visibly Animated, then spent a very difficult 6 months as a full-time carer. Ended pretty decent with some first-time teaching and a breakthrough with PhD writing. Here’s to 2023!
Out of embarrassment, I’m not sharing my entire Spotify Wrapped, but once again film/anime soundtracks & Taylor Swift top the list.
Unsurprisingly, 2 Encanto songs made my top 5.
Surprisingly, the No.1 spot went to Waiting On A Miracle - We Don’t Talk About Bruno was No.2.
Also I’m home now and the lighting is terrible, but this is the first time I’ve worn red lipstick since before the pandemic. Not my usual dark red/burgundy colour as this was a free gift, but it was still like greeting and old friend💄
Fond memories of this place - I did GCSE History and one of my coursework assessments was discussing the different periods of architecture found in this church. The school trip here was my first day back at school after I almost died from swine flu back in 2009.
Great opening night @carycomeshome with The Bishop’s Wife at @stmaryredcliffe. I always look forward to the interesting locations they come up with and this one was perfect for a first-time watch for me (please forgive the terrible photos - I am small & also had some sherry!)
