This morning, I asked my husband to double-check that he had an Alf Pog to give to his coworker today. That single interaction is a good glimpse into our daily lives.
I was just trying to take a photo of the rose-breasted grosbeak on my feeder to send to my husband and 3 scarlet tanagers flew into the photo and I am freaking out. #birdsofmaine
Today's small joy was me asking the contractor if he had a really heavy hammer I could use, and when he asked why, he didn't even flinch when I told him it was because I was having a difficult time opening a geode.
So it turns out the mystery bird call I've been frantically trying to ID w/ the Merlin app is actually the text notification noise on the contractor's phone. We realized it as I ran to the door yelling "There it is again!" as he casually took his phone out of his pocket. Dying.
@SarahMackAttack A few super short ones I've read lately are:
Shock Waves by Matt Kurtz
The Lottery and We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
Tim O'Shea has a ton of short stories too that I've enjoyed: Toe Tag, Forgive Me Father, Last Call
Sometimes, after I send an email that I don't want to send, I find it helpful to walk away from my computer for a few minutes, go outside to look at the sky and search for the meteor that I hope is headed right toward my house.
