A thing I appreciate is that meditation/therapy will "naturally" catch the structures that are impacting your life the most as they will "sprout" the most frequently.
I'm fascinated by consistent social distributions like this. Someone said every 4-player game of Mario is 2 good players, 1 mid player, and 1 clueless player...and that absolutely matches my experience.
How do we all know the same distribution of people? Is this the Truman Show?
The Mormon missionary program has a great reputation for teaching languages. The secret sauce isn’t in the training (MTC pedagogy is fine but not extraordinary) — it’s in giving the missionaries a message & a purpose. From those, the motivation to do the tedious work of learning the language naturally follows.
I prided myself in having a simple palate: “Why develop a taste for fancy food when I enjoy Taco Bell perfectly well?”
Then I dated a girl who looked nice things, and my pride turned to shame. I realized I was a rube and a bumpkin.
I’m grateful for this change. It has been the defining shift of the past 5 years for me.
Successful dating is a paint-by-numbers game.
All the good moves are known, it’s just a question of whether you’re humble enough to learn them and apply them.
@SpencrGreenberg “A Voyage To Arcturus” — the most bizarrely beautiful philosophical/allegorical adventure story I’ve ever read. Like an “Everyman” for the modern era.
@imago_dei1016@spqr_sulla@JadeAtrophis Yeah, but not well. Can you name anyone who was a significant contributor to math, science, philosophy, history & literature?
@spqr_sulla@imago_dei1016@JadeAtrophis For sure. Would it be an accurate representation of your position to say:
autism < high iq < (autism + high iq)
?
@spqr_sulla@imago_dei1016@JadeAtrophis Would it be fair to say that autists are overrepresented amongst the people who have made world-changing contributions to math & science?
Chakra shower thought: incels play 4th chakra games (being nice) but want to win 2nd chakra prizes (sex).
If you want 2nd chakra prizes you have to play 2nd chakra games.
One other approach I’ve been trying is “chakras as mood regions”. Like I said, it’s futile to try and list every mood, but it can be helpful to think of, say, the root chakra as sort of gesturing at several moods that have a similar flavor — e.g. anxiety, fear, stress — and their counterparts — ease, comfort, security.
In this approach, the specific mood indicated by a chakra will depend on the specific circumstances of the situation, but having the chakras as “mood guideposts” or a reference checklist can come in handy.
"All women generally want is a man who is monomaniacally driven by a VISION that is grandiose, wild, and actually just might work. Most men these days have nothing like that within them. Their 'vision' is usually a totally nondescript future involving the accumulation of money and little else, and from what I have seen, only fairly doltish and status-conscious women are attracted to such uninspired vagaries."
It really isn't.
I'm a fellow with one hell of a past, teeth like a goat, a salty, hard-to-deal with personality, and I also live on <$15k/yr -- and I managed to find a fantastic wife.
This mythical idea that all women are materialistic high-dollar princesses is stupid.
In reality, the people in present-day USA who are truly willing to go for eccentric ways of living are mostly women. Extreme frugality, hardcore cheap travel, nonelectric off grid, life in actual rural America -- large numbers of women do this stuff already (see WWOOFing) or are truly excited at the prospect.
The men who say it's "so hard" to find a woman to do this stuff with are frankly coping for some other major deficiency, or have been crippled by porn-adjacent beauty standards, or simply lack VISION.

Thinking women want a man with vision and adventure and a touch of stability thrown in, and a guy like this is able to give it to them in spades. This particular fellow is simply not mixing in the right circles (and sounds like he's got other problems besides).
