Hearing very worrying sounds Labour wants to abstain on loan charge - so the Speaker is therefore unlikely to allow a vote on #NC31
This looks like a stitch up between the Tories & Labour
I will be pushing hard for a vote
@loanchargeAPPG@RuthCadbury@UKLabour
We've just been sent this email that a person facing the Loan Charge sent to @Keir_Starmer.
@UK_Labour can vote this evening to end this nightmare for thousands.
A vote for #NC31 is a vote to tackle tax evasion AND prevent needless loss of life.
1/x I feel it appropriate to speak out if, as is the case here, I believe MPs are being misled. Of course, I do not know who drafted the objections. I will assume it was by HMRC/HMT.
My new comment piece - 'If the Government is so confident that the review was truly independent, then it will surely welcome this call for an open inquiry.' #loancharge@loanchargeAPPG

Not shocked but this is unacceptable. @ThangamMP how can the Morse review have been truly independent if HMRC and the treasury were involved in selecting the independent experts that advised, ignoring those who appeared before the treasury select committee.
EXPOSED BY FOI: HMRC & the Treasury we’re involved in which ‘independent experts’ should advise the supposedly ‘independent’ #LoanCharge review including advising the review not to appoint advisers who’d appeared before Select Committee #LoanChargeScandal

I would urge all MPs to support NC31.
It does NOT clear historical tax debts.
It LETS HMRC exercise their full range of administrative powers (enquiries/assessments) to challenge loan schemes provided (as they mostly did) HMRC took timely action under Taxes Management Act 1970.
Those you attack @Jesse_Norman are facing ruin - nurses, pensioners, social workers & familes of #LoanCharge suicides and accuse of lobbying?! We don’t know what lobbying is, fighting dangerous injustice & trying prevent more suicides, which HMRC failed do. #LoanChargeScandal
@BaloPig @elashton@andyverity I can provide an example. Paid my LC APN years ago. HMRC also confirmed last year that they had calculated the wrong amount. Haven't offered me the refund yet!
The inhumanity of HMRC over #LoanCharge astounding! The Review changed nothing for vast majority, this needs to end.
"Had to finalise loan charge while in hospital 2 days after full craniotomy to remove tumour... I'm completely alone & at mercy of HMRC! I'm helpless, alone."
LCAG has received following shocking account of how post #LoanCharge Review many still face life changing bills & deteriorating health.
“I will lose home…health deteriorating fast, mentally & physically...being tested for throat cancer, stomach cancer & brain cancer.”
The review of the Loan Charge resulted in a misguided attempt at a compromise. It is vital the Government deals with this in a principled manner and cancels Loan Charge taxes prior to the putative retrospective legislation of 2017.
