Today is the 85th death anniversary of Indian nationalist and advocate for India’s independence abroad, Madame Bhikaiji Cama. Born in Mumbai to a wealthy Parsi family, she lived in exile in Europe for 33 years, unfurling a flag for an independent India at the second Socialist Congress in Germany in 1907.

Historian Zareer Masani died peacefully last week. He wrote widely, but his book on his parents remains one of the most candid account of an Indian family.

The Drive-in Theater at Bandra East, Mumbai was a popular spot in the 1970s and 1980s.
Opened in 1977, it was a brainchild of the Eros Cinema group. Located on a 10 acre plot, it had a massive screen and space for over 600 cars.
It closed down in the late 1990s due to declining popularity and rising real estate value.
"These tightly packed buildings, with their typical dukaan-makaan configurations, were shaped by Indian masons, carpenters and craftsmen, working outside the pale of the British building establishment."
