Rough Trade Records would like to extend deepest sympathy to the Kwasniewski-Kelvin family who have shared this statement on the tragic passing of founding black midi member Matt - an incredibly talented person who will be truly missed.

Oh fuck man, wtf
RIP Matt. You created an album that almost singlehandedly spawned a scene and a subgenre, and the band wasn’t the same following your departure. You will be missed more than you know.
rest in peace to matt kwasniewski-kelvin. his noise wizardry opened up music for me in a way that i never knew possible. his work with black midi has made me the musician i am today, and im gutted to hear his life has been cut short. please check in on your friends. 🩷
I think this performance is what made me want to actually pursue music and be a musician I thought matt’s feedback effect was the coolest thing in the world and probably replayed it over 20 times in a row
Let’s make 4/20 a day we can all celebrate. Together we must call on Governors to use their power of clemency to pardon people for cannabis-related offenses under state laws. https://t.co/HDjpH3zdf3
justice for all. free all the love in the world that is yet to be shared.
