Gov. @JeffLandry wants credit for education progress that happened under John Bel Edwards—but let’s be real. He came into office in January, and by spring, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) was already taken. He had nothing to do with those results.

Instead of investing in education, Landry spent his first months in office focused on locking up more kids. He rolled back ‘Raise the Age,’ so now 17-year-olds are charged as adults. He’s expanding juvenile detention centers instead of improving schools. He’s making it easier to put 14- and 15-year-olds in adult prisons, not giving them a second chance.

Banning cell phones and hanging the Ten Commandments in classrooms won’t raise test scores—but investing in students and teachers will. And while Landry rewrites history, where are the voices calling him out? The Louisiana Democratic Party and the Black Caucus have been too quiet while our children’s futures are at stake.
