@SaltyDrave@JamesCr05 By the way, if you have any studies (not position statements) that support your point of view that I have not linked to on that page, please let me know.
This is going to put a serious dent in the argument that permanent Standard Time is healthier. This is the biggest and most comprehensive study ever on overall mortality, and it is very clear that DST saves lives.

@SaltyDrave@JamesCr05 I like this study because it's helpful and informative. I link to it -- and to the studies that agree with your point of view -- here: https://t.co/yMJqbLb6uW I think ALL the science should be considered.
@JamesCr05@SaltyDrave James, I'm really not sure why you are so dismissive of the 9 scientists and countless other reviewers who have published very clear evidence in one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world.
@SaltyDrave@JamesCr05 And another 8 weeks of worse mortality in ST. There's no way that 2 months of people dying at increased rates in the fall is because of _gaining_ an hour of sleep one night. It's being in ST time that increases mortality.
@SaltyDrave@JamesCr05 That's because this is a scientific research report, not a position paper. And it is not saying the transitions are the cause of mortality, thought it does note that other studies have shown that. The data shows 8 weeks of improved mortality in DST...
@SaltyDrave@JamesCr05 I'm not a scientist, but I think that's because it's a negative regression model. The words, however, are clear: "DST is linked with a significant decrease in general mortality in spring ... as well as a significant increase in the fall..."
@JamesCr05 You really might want to read at least a little of the study before you describe it incorrectly: "Weather conditions, which can be important confounding factors, as they can greatly alter daily mortality rates when significant enough, have been taken into account."
@mgarr_aha Also this: "After adjusting for temporal, meteorological, geographic, country-specific, and population variables, our findings point to a significant increase in mortality in the first and second week after the DST fall transition."
@mgarr_aha I was confused by that, too, and had to read further to make sure what I was saw in the graphs was right: "Our results indicate for the first time that DST is linked with a significant decrease in general mortality in spring ... as well as a significant increase in the fall..."
By the way, this plays in to the theory that I've had for a while, that Big TV is behind the efforts to force us to keep changing the clock. https://t.co/MB1jbTqB6H
It used to be that all the DST humor was just before or after the change. Now it's all year long! https://t.co/zq8LU072Mx I hate to deprive the world of the jokes, but I still think it's worth it to #LockTheClock
@finefinefox Jay, (this is clearly you using one of your many fake accounts), you don't need to be a scientist to see that DST causes fewer deaths for 7 weeks, and ST causes more deaths for 8 weeks. You don't need to be a scientist to know that "acute" is not two months!
@BethAnnMalow@Tennessean @VUMC_Insights @VUMCneurology I for sure agree with you about Tennessee, and said so recently: https://t.co/2NDzMMvdeN The hard part would be convincing people in New England and a bunch of the other states on the eastern sides of their time zones.
Here's my map. If I was king of the world, I'd say Mich., Ind., Ky., Tenn., N.D., S.D., Neb., and Kansas go to permanent Standard Time. The rest of the country goes to permanent DST. I am not, however, king, so I say it is up to the people of the states after we #LockTheClock
