Police warn of phone scam
Police are warning the public to be cautious of a phone scam that appears to be spoofing a Halifax Regional Police phone-line.
Today, Halifax Regional Police received several reports of people receiving phone calls from the departmentβs non-emergency reporting/dispatch phone number 902-490-5020 which appears on the call display. The person claims to be from the Halifax Regional Police and advises the victim that their personal information was compromised as part of an international scam.
If you receive a call like this, do not provide or confirm any personal or financial information and hang up the phone.
Scammers can spoof phone numbers to make it appear as though theyβre calling from a trusted source. Do not give personal information to anyone by phone, email or in person unless you are certain of their identity and the legitimacy of the organization they represent.
Several of the reports today were from other areas of Canada. If you have received a call like this and have given any personal or financial information to the scammer, please contact your local police department.

Police investigate robbery
Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in Dartmouth last week.
On May 24 at approximately 4:15 p.m. police responded to a report of a robbery at the Canadian Tire, located at 30 Lamont Terrace in Dartmouth. Upon arrival, officers located an injured employee who had been assaulted by a man attempting to steal store merchandise. The suspect fled the area in a vehicle prior to police arrival. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate him. The victim was transported to the hospital by EHS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as between 30 to 40 years old and approximately 6β1β tall with a slender build and short, greying facial hair. At the time, he was wearing a dark sweater, blue jeans, a black baseball hat, black shoes and black sunglasses with blue lenses.
The vehicle that the suspect fled in is described as a light blue, older model, four door sedan. It is possibly a Chrysler.
