I have been watching the on going Uganda travel influencer trip carefully and tagged in the conversation more times than I can count, and this my statement on the entire CAMPAIGN, not just the trip.
The Open Park Day initiative is a brilliant idea with a serious execution problem.
Cutting entrance fees from UGX 30,000 to 0 for three days does not solve Uganda's domestic tourism challenge, the entrance fee was never the barrier.
Transportation, accommodation, food, and time are the barriers. A Ugandan in Kampala who cannot afford to visit Murchison Falls is not staying home because of the entrance fee. They are staying home because the full cost of the trip is still out of reach.
You removed the smallest line item and left everything else untouched.
On the influencer question - I want to be careful here because I believe this industry needs every voice and eyeball it can get and I do not believe in attacking individuals but I will say this clearly. A macro influencer who inspires someone to want to visit a park and an operator who actually puts people in a vehicle and drives them there are two different things and they should not be treated as the same tool for the same problem.
If the goal is only visibility, then reach matters and the hired influencers can deliver that.
If the goal is conversion, getting Ugandans to actually visit, then you need people who have the trust, a proven client base, group trip experience, and the infrastructure to organise a journey from point A to the park gate and back. Those are registered tourism businesses and they should have been the first call, not an afterthought.
Here is what I recommend should be the way forward;
Sit down with twenty or more registered, tourism-compliant companies, lodges, bus companies, camp sites, individuals (my people please tag them so that the responsible parties can get that information) People who run group trips, people whose clients have interests, inspiration and some small travel budgets. Build different packages around the three days - Solve the accommodation and the transport question.
Make it possible for a group of ten Ugandans to book a Murchison weekend for a genuinely accessible shared cost and arrive to a coordinated experience.
THAT should be the campaign - What you ladies and gentlemen are doing is press trip dressed as a public access initiative and Ugandans know the difference, listen to them.
I wish everyone on that trip an excellent time. Our National parks are extraordinary and any footage that comes out of these trips will serve Uganda, that part I fully support.
Greetings to everyone from the beautiful Magical Kenya🇰🇪

Home isn't always a place.
Sometimes it's someone pulling up a locally crafted chair or laying down a mat just for you, pouring you a local drink, and making you feel like you belong ❤️Add a few folk stories, plenty of laughter, and somehow strangers start to feel like family 🥹
You know it was a good session when the meeting ends but people keep sitting, chatting and sharing ideas 🥰
#Coffee, African tea, #JollyJuice, great company and a space that truly feels like home 🤎

Did you know that community tourism is one of the most impactful ways to support conservation?
Through the #UWAOpenParkDays campaign, influencers have experienced Uganda's conservation efforts firsthand with game drives, a boat cruise, and meaningful community engagements.
The gate opened... and so did the conversation 🇺🇬
Honoured to welcome @wekesa_amos to our very first #CreatorsSession. No speeches. No formalities. Just honest conversations, practical insights and a shared belief that 🇺🇬#Uganda 's story deserves to be told well 🙌🏾
There is something about safari life that makes you forget everything else.
The Nature was beautiful. A great photographer made it unforgettable.

🎙️ Last year’s community medical camp revealed a sobering reality: 19 out of 80 people tested were HIV positive.
This year, the #GuluCityMarathon26 will champion HIV awareness and prevention while continuing to invest in community initiatives.
Together, we run for health, hope, and lasting impact.
