On this day 25 years ago, the world watched, as Jamal al-Durrah tried to protect his 12-year-old son Muhammad from Israeli bullets that rained down on them in Gaza for 40 minutes. Despite pleads, Israeli soldiers intentionally shot Muhammad in the stomach- whose final moments of fear and horror were caught on camera and streamed by France TV, and injured his father.

Muhammad became the defining and haunting image of the Second Intifada.

In a Durga Puja pavilion in West Bengal’s Murshidabad, the organisers have unveiled the idol of Mahishasura, a demon, modelled after Professor #MuhammadYunus. This is not just art, this is a form of cultural aggression; an expression of extremely vulgar cultural taste.

This statue not only insults the head of the #Bangladesh government or a globally acclaimed individual but also demeans the #JulyUprising of Bangladesh, our struggle for freedom and the nation’s sovereign dignity. The modelling of the Mahishasura after Professor Yunus represents extreme humiliation as the demon is defeated and killed by the goddess Durga.

By portraying a political opponent as a demon, they have mocked our victorious history and humiliated our independent identity. They have also insulted our great July Revolution, through which a fascist government was ousted and the people of the nation picked up Professor Yunus, a Nobel laureate economist, as the head of the interim government.

We condemn this act of the puja organisers in West Bengal. We know that since Sheikh Hasina was thrown out of power, #India’s Narendra Modi-led ruling party, the BJP, and its supporters are very upset and have launched another vile attack through the Durga Puja.

Postscript: In another Durga puja pavilion, the Mahishasura was found modelled after the #POTUS @realDonaldTrump. Some years ago, in India, pujas were conducted to pray for Trump’s victory and prosperity. Now, Trump is a villain in India.

Last week, we hosted the 3rd State of Investment Climate webinar with Sk. Bashir Uddin, Adviser for commerce, aviation and tourism 🇧🇩 as our guest of honor.

Here are top five takeaways:

1. Reserves and exchange rates have stabilized, driven by export ⬆️ 11% and remittance ⬆️ 30% for YTD 24-25.

2. Inflation is trending down 📉 — from double digits to single. IMF forecasts inflation to be at ~5% by early 2026 in line with our estimate. Policy rate cuts to follow after.

3. FDI held steady despite last year’s turbulence. A dip in Q3 was short-lived—Q4 and Q1 2025 show signs of rebound ⬆️ 29% YoY. Private credit showed uptrend for the first time in March since last summer.

4. Energy has been a concern. But with $3B+ arrears cleared, we expect pricing and supply to improve in 6 months.

5. 18 of 32 investment climate reform initiatives completed ✅, 7 lagging behind and the rest are on track. Some of the big rocks e.g. integration however are still pending.

The Adviser attended to wide-ranging questions including sustaining MFN tariff access through trade reforms, upgrading cargo infrastructure, boosting domestic tourism and cold chains, and improving digital trade and e-commerce frameworks.

প্রথম আলো আজ শিরোনাম করেছে "হাসনাতের বিলাসী জীবনযাপন নিয়ে প্রশ্ন"। আমি প্রথম আলোর সেই সাংবাদিককে অনুরোধ করছি আপনি দয়া করে আমার বাসায় এসে দেখে যান আমি কত বিলাসি জীবনযাপন করি।

দিল্লী থেকে লিখে দেওয়া নিউজ করে যদি ভেবে থাকেন হাসনাত আব্দুল্লাহকে থামাতে পারবেন তাহলে আপনারা এখনও ভুলের জগতে আছেন। থামার হলে তো সেদিনই থেমে যেতাম। ক্লিন ইমেজের আওয়ামী লীগ ফেরানোর বিরুদ্ধে জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে একাই রুখে দাঁড়াতাম না।

থামার হলে আপনাদের মতোই ভারত বা র এদের তাবেদারি করে মন্ত্রী হওয়ার হিসাব করতাম। বিলাসিতাই যদি করতে চাইতাম তাহলে আমার এতো যুদ্ধ করার দরকার ছিল না আপনাদের সাথে মিলে মিশেই বিলাসি জীবন বেছে নিতে পারতাম।

আমি সেটা করিনি এবং করবও না। যতই তথ্যসন্ত্রাস করেন আমি ভারত আর র এর বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলা থামাবো না, আওয়ামী লীগ ফেরানোর কোন উদ্যোগ জীবন থাকতে সফল হতে দিব না।

আমি কত বিলাসি জীবনযাপন করি সেটা সবাই জানে। আমার ব্যাংক ব্যালেন্স থেকে শুরু করি ট্যাক্স রিটার্ন সবকিছুই একসেস করা যায়। আপনারাও একসেস করতে পারতেন কিন্তু আপনারা করেননি। চ্যালেঞ্জ করে বলছি গতকালের মিটিংএ আমার এসব বিষয়ে কোন কথাই হয়নি, প্রশ্নও হয়নি। অথচ এত বড় মিথ্যা আমার নামে ছাপিয়ে দিলেন।

আমি আবারও চ্যালেঞ্জ করছি আমি কারও কাছ থেকে এক টাকা নিয়েছি এটা কেউ প্রমাণ করুক।যেকোন ভাবে। সরকারি-বেসরকারি যেকোনো গ্রহনযোগ্য প্রক্রিয়ায় তদন্ত হোক। আমি রাজনীতি ছেড়ে দেব। কিন্তু এসব মিথ্যা নিউজ করে আমাকে রাজনীতি থেকে মাইনাস করা যাবে না।

প্রথম আলো বারবারই এ দেশের সৎ এবং দেশপ্রেমিক রাজনীতিবিদদের নিয়ে মিথ্যাচার করেছে।ভারতীয় সাম্রাজ্যবাদের বিরুদ্ধে যে বা যারাই দাঁড়ানোর চেষ্টা করেছে, তাদেরকেই আক্রমণের লক্ষ্যবস্তু বানানো হয়েছে। আমি সেই তালিকার সর্বশেষ সংযোজন। র এর বিরুদ্ধে পোস্ট দেওয়ার দুই দিনের মাথায় আমাকে নিয়ে এই তথ্যসন্ত্রাস কাকতালীয় হতে পারে না।

এসব তথ্যসন্ত্রাস দিয়ে আমাকে থামানো যাবে না। যতদিন দেহে প্রাণ আছে আমি এই দেশে দিল্লির সাম্রাজ্যবাদের বিরুদ্ধে এবং আওয়ামী লীগের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলে যাবো। তাতে আমার রাজনীতি যদি না থাকে, আমাকে যদি মাইনাস করা হয়, হোক।

আমাদেরকে মেরে না ফেলা পর্যন্ত ভারত, র আর আওয়ামী লীগের বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের এ লড়াই অব্যাহত থাকবে ইনশাআল্লাহ।
