Thanks to @DerekPodcast I have discovered there is a 2nd edition of God and Horrendous Suffering by @loftusjohnw. Thanks! I also had to purchase Draper's new book on the topic of course :)
Do you want to read a sophisticated defense of miracles and an equally sophisticated rebuttal?
The defense of miracles was written by Don McIntosh.

The rebuttal was just published today, written by me!

Lydia McGrew, Jonathan Mclatchie, and @DrFrankTurek are discussing the minutia of the texts of the Bible in undesigned coincidences. In doing so they strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! Try discussing this instead: https://t.co/2atjVBEQlt
@DrMikeLicona Its not the minutia errors you should be concerned about. You should be concerned with the fact Jesus affirmed honor killings by stoning!

Wow! Thank you Richard Carrier! Thank you so very much for this enthusiastic endorsement of my book! Thanks also for accurately applying the outsider test to areas outside the philosophy of religion!

We only need to look at the world of animals to see what a creator God could do. Then it's obvious God could've done better:
"I am suggesting there are several things a God could do to eliminate horrendous suffering without producing a chaotic world, or inhibiting our character development, that would help draw us to him, all of which are easy to conceive and already found in the animal kingdom.
Since God, if he exists, could have done differently but did not, he is to blame for all horrific suffering in this world."

The planarian can turn into two different creatures.
If God created this species he could also regrow our amputated arms and legs. If God can do the one, he can do the other. So why does God not heal us, since we are his most valuable species??
Justin Martyr spills the beans!
Meet Justin Martyr, a gentile convert born and having lived in Roman-Palestine whose grandparents would very likely have been alive during the time of Jesus Christ hearing about his miraculous birth, hearing his teaching, seeing or hearing about his miracles and many times hearing about (if not seeing) his untimely death his death on the cross yet left nothing for history.
Moreover, despite having lived through all this Gospel history, Justin’s grandparents and parents clearly knew nothing about the life and times of Jesus Christ or his Apostles, be they 12 or 72 in number. Fact is that Justin with all this strong family genealogy living in the Holy Land at the same time of Jesus, was a pagan philosopher who apparently only converted to Christianity when he left the Holy Land and moved to Asia-Minor (that is, if he was a real historical figure and not and invention by a latter Christian Bishop such as the first Church historian, Eusebius).
Ironically, this first Christian apologist wrote a defense of the Christian faith in circa 150 CE with the goal of proving to the Roman Empire that Jesus Christ should be accepted as the son of God because like the old pagan religions, Jesus was just another demi-god no different than any other pagan Roman god or demi-god. As evidence, I quote two sections from his First Christian Apology:
“Although we (Christians) say the same things as the Greeks (Classical pagans), we alone are hated!” (Justin Martyr, 1 Apology 24:1)
(Justin Martyr, 1 Apology 21)
“And when we say also that the Word, who is the first-born of God, was produced without sexual union, and that He, Jesus Christ, our Teacher, was crucified and died, and rose again, and ascended into heaven, we propound nothing different from what you believe regarding those whom you esteem sons of Jupiter. For you know how many sons your esteemed writers ascribed to Jupiter: Mercury, the interpreting word and teacher of all; Esculapius, who, though he was a great physician, was struck by a thunderbolt, and so ascended to heaven; and Bacchus too, after he had been torn limb from limb; and Hercules, when he had committed himself to the flames to escape his toils; and the sons of Leda, and Dioscuri; and Perseus, son of Danae; and Bellerophon, who, though sprung from mortals, rose to heaven on the horse Pegasus. For what shall I say of Ariadne, and those who, like her, have been declared to be set among the stars? And what of the emperors who die among yourselves, whom you deem worthy of deification, and in whose behalf you produce someone who swears he has seen the burning Caesar rise to heaven from the funeral pyre?”
Dr. John Beversluis was writing another book which was terminally interrupted due to his untimely death. His widow gave me permission to post his chapters on my blog. Enjoy!
