🚨BREAKING🚨:
BIG commitment for the Gamecocks as former Wake Forest shortstop, JD Stein will be headed to Columbia!
JD was ranked the no. 87 overall player and the no. 33 overall shortstop in the 2025 class. He will have 4 years of eligibility remaining with the new eligibility rules.
In his first year at the collegiate level Stein had a bWAR of 1.5 and slashed .266/.384/.399 with a .783 OPS. Counting numbers were decent as well with 5 homers, 10 doubles, and 41 RBI.
He seemingly improved once the Deac’s hit ACC play as he slashed .305/.409/.486 with a .895 OPS. Counting numbers were good here as well as 4 of his 5 homers came in conference play along with 20 RBI.
Stein is an OBP. machine getting hit 9 times and also drawing 30 walks which he almost walked as much as he struck out. He can make you pay once he gets on as well as he also stole 13 bags.
Now the one question with Stein may be his glove as he had 11 errors at short for Wake but even with that being the case he still flashed at times and it seems this is just a case of finding consistency.

- Losing record vs UNC.
- Could not grab (and never was in legit contention for) UNC’s coach.
- Resting in Cancun, meanwhile UNC is on Omaha for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.
- Haven’t been to Omaha in over a DECADE (UNC has been 4x since).
- Haven’t won conf. reg szn in over a DECADE (UNC has done so 2x since).
- Haven’t won conf. tourney in over 20 YEARS (UNC has done so 5x since).
- 104-40 (.722) OUT of conference record this decade (compared to 130-28 (.823) for UNC)
- Isn’t the real “Carolina” OR the real “USC”.
Congrats on two natties 14 years ago, that’s nice, but South Carolina is an embarrassment of a program currently compared to UNC.
