Turned 30 this week.

Hired 3 new subcontractors
Already fired one.

I think next time I will do one per week instead of 3 at once - pure chaos trying to navigate accountability with them, fixing and redoing the work for one guy, along with everything else I have to do.

It was hot. I may have been on the verge of heat stroke, But at least I didn’t have to answer the phones or set estimates. That is a win!

Now to roadtrip up to Minnesota for the Pro Motocross Race.

@irentdumpsters Hired this out last Tuesday to a lady from Jamaica! 1 week in and it’s been fantastic not having to answer every call. Nothings slowed down from an estimate setting rate. 10/10 recommend.

I 100% agree with you. I only took this one because the homeowners hired me outside of the GC. That’s the only time I consider it. I usually come in at the end and it’s not bad, but this GC is doing thing backwards and has his hands in everyone’s cookie jar….. but he’s not my boss the homeowners are. Still drives me nuts tho.

On day, three of a new construction job and I’m already reminded why hate doing these.

Anymore I only will take new construction on if I’m hired directly by the homeowner. Because general contractor wants things done yesterday that they’re gonna tell you about tomorrow.

General contractor has a homeowner all worked into a frenzy already because he’s scheduling things without even talking to me.

Had us painting in the most ass backwards order and easier to just do it then fight him on it. (To verify I’ve talked to over 20 premium paint companies I know, just to see and they all are like your doing what?)

Drywall guy has to come back and patch a bunch of nail holes they only went over twice instead of 3 or 4. And we slowed down because we can’t do anything till that’s done and I’m being told I need to be more efficient 🤦‍♀️

GC lives would be so much better if they just accepted the fact shit never goes as planned and just deal with the cards at hand. There miserable to work with 9/10 times

I searched my company today for something and everything below my page is negative reviews.

All of these reviews are for other companies NOT mine but it doesn’t show that unless you click on the post, so naturally everyone will associate these reviews with the company you searched.

Did this with some other companies and same exact thing.

A day in the life….

1. Figure out onboarding for new CSR and Appt Setter….. Get her access to everything

2. Start onboarding - very disorganized but tracked the steps if it ever needs to happen again.

3. Discover $2,000 of paint is missing that was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Start a manhunt for it - painters are twiddling thumbs until we find it, still in the middle of onboarding / training.

5. Finish onboarding / training for today, head to finish staining a deck I started last week that the rain keeps pushing me back on

4. Learn Drywall work at new construction is subpar while priming. Have to leave and go have a meeting on sight. nail heads are showing and need to be redone - contractor pissed, not my work but I still hear about it

5. Found paint. Delivered to some random shed down the road - send pin and have crew pick it up

6. Check in with other crew on new job they started.

7. Back to finish staining the deck (More rain tomorrow)

8. Finish, get home about 8pm. Realize I have to still plan training and loose ends of onboarding tomorrow for the new girl….. Also supposed to schedule a meeting to interview a new sub….. forgot about that - it would help a lot with production, probably should hop on that tomorrow.

9. Shower, shut brain off, go to bed with a plan to wake up at 4 am to workout, and get some deep work in before chaos ensues again by 8 am and people are demanding my attention.

That about sums up today in a nutshell - This still beats my old w2. I hated that when I left.

Excited to keep pushing. Forward in the right direction hopefully.

Just Hired an CSR and Appointment Setter to take over phones and inbound leads. She started today.

Had a backlog of 22 leads I just couldn’t get to / prioritized other things

Kept telling myself I’ll call them at the end of the day.

Next thing I know it’s 9pm…….

Time to delegate.

I have no idea what I’m doing, but I think onboarding went well today.

I operate in a small town and it’s hard to find qualified established 3-4 man crews. Some of my guys drive an hour + every day.

Scheduling has been a nightmare lately.

Rain every other day.

I’m going to need to find more guys or we ain’t getting all these exteriors done this year.

Do I just bite the bullet and hire, or keep seeking out subs.

I’d like to have my own in house crew or two, but idk if I have the bandwidth to train them right now. There’s a zero % chance I’ll find someone fully qualified

What’s been the best tasks you’ve offloaded in your biz to offshore talent?

Sending out a job offer to foreign talent today. A lady from Jamaica to help answering phones, scheduling, setting up estimates - and over time will add more tasks as she masters and wants to take on more.

Speakers perfect English too, which in Iowa, people catch onto that fast and it’s an immediate turn off for being local.

@pestctrlguy These guys came around last year in my hometown of 1200. The selfie after they bought I swear got like 90% of the town to buy. Everyone seen their friends post and buy on FB and it got to the point of like the whole town judging if you didn’t buy wtf was wrong with you 😂

Long term have 2-3 in house crews and supplement them with solid subs, especially during exterior season….. they tend to do a good job there and it’s less “sensitive” working outside a home than in it.

I don’t want to hire someone and just throw them to the wolves either that’s a recipe for disaster on both ends. I don’t have a shop, or even really outfitted to bring on a crew in house yet….. and really don’t have the time to try and coordinate it. Was going to push through this season and over winter work on that when we slow down.

I’m in the zone of stabilize what you have or keep pushing forward and watch shit break lol
