Is anyone aware of a nifty, online, interactive map of anadromous salmon migration routes in North America, or even just continental US West Coast? The dream is one with filters for different species, different runs, etc. TIA!

I moved from Arc to R for mapping over a year ago, and I only just realized something devastating: ggplot only adds legend items if they have varying values. What about objects with monotone symbology (e.g., trails, sites) that belong in a map legend? Any advice? TIA!
Van Isle Violet delivers her #GroundHogDay2022 prediction. Yes, you have to watch the science stuff first. There's hardly any, and features marmots Louis and Bluebell. Also Dr. McAdie's hands.
I'm a genetics novice and I'm going crazy. I'm trying to use BLAST in R on a metabarcoding dataset from the 12S region. I can see where to get the 16S database from NCBI, but I can't find the equivalent for 12S. Would anyone be kind enough to help? TIA!

@mrbrousil I recently took a road trip down the Oregon Coast. Portland - San Fransisco with a quick detour to Crater Lake. I believe most of those spots would be spared from smoke/fire, but it'd be worth a check. If you're interested in the itinerary I used, shoot me an email!
Just how bad is 2021 shaping up to be for mountain glaciers in the Pacific Northwest? Here's a year-over-year comparison of Mt. Rainier from July, 2020 to July, 2021.
**Note that there was ~10% *more* snow in 2021 on June 1st.
