NAKAI - a magnificent 21-year-old orca - has died at SeaWorld San Diego less than a year after the death of another SW/SD orca: 6-year-old AMAYA. Both were born and bred in captivity; both lived their short lives in concrete tanks subjected to chronic stress.
Bill introduced to Congress:
The Strengthening Welfare in Marine Settings (SWIMS) Act would amend the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 to prohibit the taking, importation or exportation of orcas and other whales for the purpose of public display.
