166 Brothel Raid: Man Accused of Kidnapping His Own Daughter Found Hiding in Ireland Amid Major Trafficking Crackdown

Gardaí have arrested a 57-year-old man at a Cork city massage parlour on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities for alleged child kidnapping, illegal restraint, and hostage-taking offences.

Khalid Kurshid, a German-Pakistani national, was detained at the Yang Sheng massage parlour on Marlborough Street during Operation Global Chain, a coordinated international law enforcement action targeting human trafficking networks.

The week-long operation ran from June 8 to 12 and involved An Garda Síochána, Europol, INTERPOL, and partner agencies across multiple countries. Detective Sergeant Michael McGrath told the High Court that Kurshid was arrested following an alert on the Schengen Information System (SIS). He is currently in custody and is expected to face extradition proceedings to Germany.

The arrest formed one element of a broader national effort under Operation Global Chain. Across Ireland, Gardaí inspected 166 suspected brothels, interviewed 269 individuals involved in sex work, and monitored more than 17,000 passengers at airports and ports in efforts to identify victims of human trafficking and disrupt organised crime groups involved in exploitation, including child trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Gardaí have described the operation as a significant step in international cooperation against transnational crime. The force continues to work with European partners to locate high-risk missing persons and bring those wanted for serious offences before the courts.

Kurshid was remanded in custody following his initial court appearance. Proceedings are ongoing.
