Pokémon’s latest viral meme wasn’t about cards.

It was about a bicycle.

The official Pokémon account reposted the classic bike joke from the 2004 games, where players are mocked for not being able to afford an overpriced bicycle.

Collectors immediately connected it to today's TCG market.

Booster boxes with MSRP around $140–160 are regularly selling for $250–400 on the secondary market. Popular releases disappear within minutes, scalpers use bots to clear inventory, and some collectors are camping outside stores just for a chance to buy at retail.

The irony is that Pokémon was always built around collecting, trading, and playing.

Now, for many fans, the hardest challenge is simply getting product at the intended price.

Pokémon has already increased production to fight shortages.

The question is whether supply can catch up before an entire generation of casual collectors gets priced out.
